THINK LIKE A CHEF: PASTRY BATTLE | Sorted Food

Published

on

When Barry and Jamie go head-to-head in a cooking battle, they often copy each other to get by… but what happens when we split them up so they can’t see each other cooking? Today is the day that we find out!!

In this episode, our resident Chef, Ben, guides our Normals into making one of the most difficult pastry dishes to master: the Mille Feuille. With a no-nonsense approach, lots of cheffy jargon and a heavily technical process to follow, will our Normals be able to ‘think like a chef’? Or will they crack under pressure?

If Barry had just sliced his pastry when it came back too tall…

salt is fine for pastry, and pepper back in IXc was fine even for candy. so…

Ben and Mike must have talked about putting a pepper mill next to the salt as a red herring and laughed it off thinking neither Jamie or Barry would actually add pepper to season a dessert 😂😂 in Jamie’s defence he did follow Bens instruction to season the flour and probably acted on instinct rather than thinking about his actions but not even the world’s best solicitor would be able to defend him in court because after 13 years of making videos on a cooking channel he should know salt was right to be added to enhance the other flavours but black pepper most definitely should’ve stayed out the flour 😂😂

Bloody control freak. Thinks his instructions are so self complimentary that it massages his ego and displays what a Pratt he is capable of being. He’s like the Sheldon Cooper of the group with such a huge superiority complex at a cost of irritating his patient friends to the extent that at times makes him barely tolerable.

As a trained classical pastry cook, this really hurt… especially them making the pastry creme and icing. lol

To be fair, I thought that Mike's dish looked the most appetizing. Very welcoming and homely, in the best sense.

I bet Barry has ADHD. The look on his face when given oral instructions makes me think his brain can't take them in. If the instructions were written, he would cruise through.

Barry is the winner, ALWAYS, Barry will always be the winner. You got this Baas…

Barry listens to instructions and comprehends them first time, even if he’s still on a later step challenge:

    Difficulty impossible

A THINK LIKE A CHEF challenge, Jamies is told he thought more like a chef, but Barry wins. What does he have on you, why is he even part of the group, and how does he keep winning things like this?

Barry is definitely the winner. Although, if it had been me, I'd have cut his very puffy pastry in half lengthwise, making them thinner. So he could've had the three layers he should've had. But I am absolutely in no way a pastry chef. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My pastry blender is easier and as fast as grating butter…and so much easier to clean…I no longer have a dishwasher…no longer in commercial kitchen and moved to house with an Itty bitty shitty kitchen….wasn't good idea to downsize for retirement years…..

Are we sure Barry doesn't have ADHD?

As a patisserie student, watching this is very funny 😂 and omg the moment barry and jamie poured the cream straight to the dough(?) like custard just horrifies me a lot HAHAHAH

Ebber’s face expression is so me 💀

My family makes a version of this out of graham crackers (digestive biscuits) and chocolate pudding (custard) layered like a lasagna and left in the fridge overnight. Serve with whipped cream.
