Gaza frontline report: horrific aftermath of hospital explosion – BBC News

Published

on

*** Warning: distressing images

Horrific scenes following an explosion at a hospital in Gaza City continued the day after the blast, with terrible suffering and grief as relatives mourned the dead and the search continued for the remains of Palestinian victims.

Health officials in Gaza said almost 500 people were killed in the explosion at the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City. They claim an Israeli airstrike was responsible.

However on a visit to Tel Aviv, US President Joe Biden said the deadly blast appears to have been caused by a rocket fired by Palestinian militants, backing Israel’s account of the incident.

Israel’s military said the explosion was caused by a failed Palestinian rocket, which was intended to strike Israeli territory.

The tragedy has inflamed tensions and sparked protests across the region.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Jeremy Bowen and Rushdi Abualouf reporting from the scene of the explosion.

Israel should not be acquitted of this crime without going to the place and studying the site well, and I believe that this has not happened yet, so I wonder how those who claim justice and humanity were able to believe them before confirming, what a shame.

The films are all alike….the child laying across the mans arms, the father runs into the hospital. Ive seen the same scene over and over. Theyre all alike. It looks like their setting up that way for the cameras.

  20. @barbaratatarcuk

    January 1, 2024 at 1:04 am

How come the mothers arent with the injured children? You always see news with men carrying the children…it seems like its done that way for the cameras. Whats up with that? Its not natural. Usually the women are naturally with the children not the men. It seems suspicious.

"The BLU-129/B, which has the same dimensions and weight as the Mk 82, but with a carbon-fibre body, rather than a steel one. Rather than fragmenting, the carbon-fibre body disintegrates on detonation. This results in the explosive shockwave being localised, and significantly reduces natural fragmentation, thereby reducing the level of damage outside the effective radius.
Like the BLU-126/B, the BLU-129/B has the size and weight dimensions of the Mk 82, and can also replace the bomb unit for the JDAM and laser-guided variants of the Mk 82."

"One of the manufacturers of the Mk 82 also produces a version with a pre-fragmented body. This means that the bomb’s body has been scored at regular intervals along its length and width so that it will readily break apart into fragments of uniform size. The effect of pre-fragmentation on the overall effectiveness of the Mk 82 is significant. A standard Mk 82 bomb body produces a lethal area of approximately 80 m (across) by 30 m (along), giving a lethal area of approximately 2,400 m2. The pre-fragmented version, known as the PFB-82, produces a similarly-shaped, but much larger lethal area of 240 m (across) by 80 m (along) high, giving a lethal area of 19,200 m2. As Figure 1 shows, an Mk 82 with standard forged-steel body will produce fewer than 3,000 natural fragments, but the PFB-82 model will produce almost 17,000 fragments (Ordtech, 2016)."

"As shown in Table 1, there is a 10% risk of being incapacitated at a 250 m distance from the point of detonation, and a 0.1% (1 in 1,000) risk of being incapacitated at 425 m. The manufacturer states that the Mk 82 is designed to produce fragments that vary in weight from 0.2 g to 20 g, which will be travelling at an initial velocity of between 760 m/s to 2,440 m/s (Ordtech, 2016). In practice, the Mk 82 produces some fragments that are much larger than the stated 20 g."

Welcome, you are watching the Lies and Deception Channel. We did not tell you that there are children killed daily under bombing, and we will not tell you that thousands of residents were displaced from their homes or killed in them because they were destroyed. Likewise, we cannot tell you that hospitals, mosques and churches were bombed and anyone who entered them died. We cannot. Saying that there are families that have been erased from records, that there are hundreds of orphaned children in a hospital now, that there are no water, electricity, gas, food and medicine available, that thousands of wounded people who are suffering cannot find medicine, and that dozens of premature infants will not bear any more after the hospital runs out of electricity. ..Because it does not matter to us, we follow a policy and do not understand the meaning of humanity.🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

The BBC use to be a news organisation you could trust…but reporting exactly what Hamas tells you report, unquestioningly, without independently verifying the information, is unpardonable; it shows how left-wing bias is rampant, and how journalists enter a situation not with an open mind and looking to report the unvarnished facts, but instead with a political agenda, with prejudice and preconceptions. Truly disgraceful. 😡

Ukraine and Russia are reporting cyber-attacks on their emergency alert apps, with fake warnings sent to users around the countries.

Ukraine was first to report problems, and for a short time the capital Kyiv was subject to a radiation threat, the Ukrainian Air Force has said.

A few hours later Russian authorities said its app was hacked, with a Ukrainian espionage group reportedly sending fake warnings of nuclear strikes inside Russia.

Meta hit with its largest fine ever for ‘lies’ about user data privacy | BBC News

Published

on

Meta was ordered to pay $25bn (£18.6bn) by a judge in New Mexico after a two-week trial earlier this year which found it had spent years lying to the public about how it handled Facebook user data.

“The lies extend beyond Facebook’s data practices as well,” the judge said, adding they went to “the heart of Facebook’s core business practices”.

Meta’s head lawyer CJ Mahoney said the ruling made it “all but impossible to do business in the state of New Mexico”. The company intends to appeal, which Mahoney says will be successful.

New Mexico’s lawsuit stemmed from the role of Meta in what became known as the Cambridge Analytica scandal and New Mexico had also accused the company of intentionally misleading the public on how it benefitted from content that included hate speech.

Did adult entertainment sites invent monetising attention? | BBC News

Published

on

With the advent of OnlyFans, pornographic content has become a fixture of mainstream social media. But the influence of the adult entertainment industry on internet culture arguably began decades ago. On this episode, Matt and Marianna are joined by journalist Patricia Nilsson who has reported extensively on the secretive personalities who control ‘Big Porn’ and the business model behind it. We discuss the revolutionary data tracking practices first implemented by so-called tube sites to monetise attention, the regulatory trade-off between safety and privacy, and why anonymity online may be leading to more extreme pornography fuelled by our most primal instincts.

Top Comment is hosted by Marianna Spring and Matt Shea.
