A breakthrough drug for ovarian cancer that is kinder on the body and extends lives is now available on the NHS.
The drug, called mirvetuximab soravtansine, is a known as a “biological missile” as it delivers chemotherapy drugs direct to the cancerous tissue rather than to the whole body – reducing debilitating side-effects.
Up to 400 patients a year in England could benefit from the new treatment β the first for hard-to-treat ovarian cancer in 20 years.
There are nearly 7,750 cases of ovarian cancer in the UK each year.

Is Trump losing his grip on the Republican Party? | Americast
Could Democrats flip Iowa from the Republicans?
Itβs a state Trump has won three times and Republicans have dominated for more than a decade. The last senate race the Democrats won there was Barack Obamaβs victory in 2008, before he went on to win the presidential nomination. But now, overnight primary results from Iowa are leaving Democrats feeling optimistic.
Justin, Sarah and Anthony break down the key races, including a well-funded, gun-owning Democratic gubernatorial candidate who is appealing to voters across party lines, versus a Republican outsider who won without Trumpβs endorsement. Does this signal an end to Trumpβs winning streak when it comes to picking Republican candidates?
Democrats are also hoping to flip the senate, with a paralympian gold medallist who was backed by Chuck Schumer and the party establishment.
We analyse how important Iowa is for the Democrats to win, and for Republicans to keep hold of.

How China is spying on the West with fake job ads | Global News Podcast
Intelligence agencies have issued a warning that Chinese agents are posing as HR recruiters and consultants to trick Western government and military personnel into disclosing state secrets. The Five Eyes alliance, comprised of the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand say Chinese spies advertise fake analyst jobs on platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed and Upwork, then try to persuade applicants to share classified or privileged information in interviews or trial reports.
A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in the UK condemned the warning, describing the accusations as “purely false” and “malicious slander”.
China’s supporters have pointed out that the American NSA and British GCHQ intelligence services also collect data online, as do social media and tech giants.
The BBC’s security correspondent Frank Gardner tells us more about the extent of Beijing’s espionage and what strategic advantage the government of Xi Jinping is trying to achieve.
