Families should never give up on these people, never give up because they'll drink more and more, how can people give up on a family member.

Congratulations derek for getting help. It’s the hardest part to admit to yourself and to others that you are an alcoholic. I’ve not admitted it yet to my therapist and my mum but I need to, I need help.

I was in the hospital for alcohol withdrawal years ago. I had 10 mg of Ativan in my IV and was still shaking and tachycardial. Went in an induced coma for 3 weeks. After then i needed 6 months in a rehabilitation facility to kind of relearn how to do everything. When i got there i could not feed myself, bathe myself or even wipe my own ass. I was a 26 year old man who had to wear diapers for almost my first 2 months. Once i walked out on my own i was so happy and vowed to never again take my independence for granted

The first thing said in the video is exactly why my mum doesn't drink alcohol at all. If you quit, you need to QUIT. No going back for "a couple of drinks." You need to be DONE, full stop. Not even one drink.

I remember the night I checked in to detox.. half a gallon a day plus habit. I blew a . 36 and was talking and acting normal. I truly couldn't get drunk anymore. I was like a heroin addict couldn't get high anymore but I had to drink to survive. After a week in detox and leaving on 6 months worth of anti seizure meds I went into rehab for 60 days. After treatment I've been very active in AA (I can break my on anonymity) !And my local recovery community! I'm 2 years sober and I never thought I would be able to say that.. today I know that alcohol wasn't my problem! I was using it as a solution to my problems! If you are struggling please reach out! Walk into a treatment center!! Walk into a AA meeting! I promise it will be one of the best things you ever did!! You have to do it for yourself! Not your family, the court system! None of that.. do it for yourself and I can promise everyone will take notice!! Today I'm sober but I will always be a alcoholic! I have to remember that!!

Interesting. I have been sober for over 40 years. I am now 80 years old. Back then when i was growing up, in a remote village, making your own moonshine was the norm. And people drank constantly. At work and at places etc. They do not speak of it but alcohol was almost like cigarettes back in those days. You had a Fifth of whiskey and took a shot here and there etc. And ppl drank at work. It was like a norm. I do not know if it still is.
But for me i became addicted to it. "Baccardi with cola". I could not even go to the general grocery store without having two or three shots of Whiskey. And Work became inlfuenced by it as well physically. The old timers would say "Yes that is normal you go when you feel like it, just take some more and you will be alright! (alcohol)"…. I was enough smart to know that was not the answer.
One day a long time ago, i was to the doctors office and took blood tests and general health check-up and he commented on my liver values… And we talked about drinking. Needless to say i had been indulging too much over a vast period of time. And i really did not feel like i wanted to put the bottle on the shelve… But he made me a bet… He said: I promise you, if you can be sober for 1 year, you will never want to drink again!"… And i took the bet.

What has made me remain sober for 40 years, is what i saw that year being sober doing the same things i always did, being with the same ppl i always was with. I saw soberly what alcohol turned people into from a sober point and what it did to their lives.
That was the last time i touched it and drank it. Now it is over 40 years ago,, and life has come and gone and of course it is a roller coaster as life is.. But i will never drink myself drunk again and life has been normal and good without it.

Here is also a thing that was bothering me… I could not see myself "having fun" without it. But in that year, it was more fun being without it and remembering than being drunk abd wasting it. At 80 i cherish my sober memories and moments. I rather have that, than drunken nonsense.

    Thank you.

  31. @kpec3

    December 30, 2023 at 4:12 am

Don't give up. The first year sober is tough but you can do it. The second year is where you feel normal and a lot of impossible problems get solved. After that, it's a good life, it is worth it.

i had a bad night with PTSD and wound up drinking an entire bottle of jaeger by myself in on sitting…did so much damage that the ER doc was amazed i didnt lose an organ…i'll never forget when he came in, shut the door, and basically said "enough bro, you come back in here like this and you're losing your kidney…that's if someone even finds you in time" Detoxing….was…the hardest thing ive been through. 2 weeks straight of vomiting, migraines, bowel inconsistencies and just feeling like death all the time! ive been sober for a month now and ive never looked back

I used to drink 12 cans a day. Now not been drunk in 13 years and hit the gym 5 days a week. Herbal teas are now my go too.

Im not special. You all have a 🔥 and animal deep inside you that u can tap into which can change your whole life!

Speak highly of yourselves when alone and you can achieve anything. Block and get angry at bad thoughts and switch it up to positive thoughts.

I have an alcohol problem too and the worst part about it is that you cant just stop drinking. I got through smoking, caffeine and cannabis by just quitting, but I cant just decide to quit this stupid junk… This makes it a very hard drug to get off because just one drink means the want for more drinks and before you know it you're hammered.. I was also never a bad tempered or violent drunk so people around me never told me to ease it or quit, which actually only made my drinking problem more severe. If I were a real big jerk I'm pretty sure I wouldve quit earlier.

Type 2 diabetes is "their fault."
    Heart disease is "their fault."
A car crash is "their fault."
A broken bone from falling off a horse is "their fault."
Cancer is "their fault"….a lot of the time.
Think of the tax collected from alcohol sales!!!

It does annoy me when people blame others though.
"In Germany the booze was just too cheap!"
"The doctor prescribed me opiate pain killers."
    So, what should have happened?
The price of a pint should be something only the very wealthy can afford. (And then they moan because their alcoholism isn't their fault either. It's just so unfair that they had to be rich.)
Should the doctor have left you with nothing but co-codamol after your hip transplant?
Give me a break! Take some reasonability!

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
