In Washington, US President Donald Trump is hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has asked him to return to the ceasefire agreed with Iran in June.

Meanwhile, Saudi-led forces have said the Iran-backed Houthis fired six missiles at two Saudi Arabian cities. And Iran has threatened to paralyse airports in neighbouring countries if they stop commercial Iranian flights in response to US aviation sanctions.

Manchester City have been found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching, sources have told BBC Sport.

The Athletic is reporting that the sanctions have not been decided but that the independent panel has reached its decision, finding the club guilty of all but one count.

Sources have also told BBC Sport a decision has been made in the case, and City have been found guilty of the majority of breaches.

The Premier League declined to comment. Asked if the report was correct, City did not comment either way.

Piers Morgan has called for Earl Spencer’s book about Princess Diana to be pulled from the shelves over a factual error.

Earl Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, apologised to Morgan for incorrectly describing him in the memoir as the editor of the Daily Mirror when the Mirror Group published “highly intrusive photographs of Princess Diana at the gym” in 1993.

Speaking to the BBC, Morgan said he accepted the apology but that his lawyers would be “laying out that we want the offending pages to be removed from this book. And if that means they pulp the first edition, so be it”.

The BBC understands Penguin, the publishers of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, will be amending this one point in future editions of the book.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, at the United Nations in New York, says mediators have submitted a new plan to the White House, that would pave the way for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen within a week.

The Strait is a key waterway through which twenty percent of the world’s oil supplies passed, before the war. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that talks with the US on other issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, would start afterwards.
