On August 25, 2001, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway married Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby in a spectacular royal wedding attended by kings, queens, heirs, princes and princesses from across Europe. 👑🇳🇴

The ceremony included a memorable message from the bishop: “You chose not the easiest path, but love triumphed.” ❤️

After the ceremony, the newlyweds rode through Oslo in a vintage 1966 Lincoln Continental — the same car later associated with King Harald and Queen Sonja’s wedding celebrations — before appearing on the palace balcony.

For Mette-Marit, the day also marked her debut as Norway’s Crown Princess, wearing a diamond tiara specially created for her by Garrard as a wedding gift from King Harald and Queen Sonja. 💎👑
