Carey Mulligan: Inside my beauty bag | Bazaar UK

Published

on

From playing Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, to her roles in hit films such as Never Let Me Go, Drive and An Education, Carey Mulligan knows the power of beauty to help an actor transform into character. Her latest role in the Emerald Fennell-directed Promising Young Woman uses the power of make-up and transformation to particularly great effect.

In our exclusive video, Mulligan opens up her beauty bag to share the products she uses on a daily basis – including the Barbara Sturm serum she swears by, the concealer she uses “on the bad bits”, the device that makes lines and wrinkles “go away like magic”, and the primer that makes “everything look better”.

“I think my views on beauty have changed just getting older,” she tells us. “I feel like the idealised idea of beauty – everything we’re fed in the media and photo shoots and all these things that are massively retouched – all of that stuff can be massively intimidating when you’re younger. And then when you get a bit older you realise that it truly is skin deep, and the majority of people who say they’re just drinking a lot of water are actually having a lot of cosmetic surgery. It just makes you chill a bit and relax.”

Vintage in Pills RICHARD TYLER Fall 2001 New York – Fashion Channel

Vintage in Pills RICHARD TYLER Fall 2001 New York – Fashion Channel

Richard Tyler presented his couture collection in an intimate, glass-enclosed setting in New York’s West Village, where the tightly packed space matched the intensity of the clothes on show. The presentation highlighted his strong tailoring foundation, balanced between sculptural precision and decorative eveningwear.

Tailoring led the collection, with sharply structured leather blazers featuring pointed shoulders, pearl crepe coats with pleated side panels, and classic sharkskin suits paired with crisp shirts and ties. Alongside these were lighter pieces, including short empire-waist slips with fine pintucks, which softened the overall mood and redefined eveningwear in more playful proportions.

Elsewhere, chiffon gowns, distressed embroidery, and fringed detailing introduced a freer, 1920s-inspired sensibility. The collection occasionally pushed into more extravagant territory with corseted dresses, deconstructed tuxedo elements, and abbreviated lingerie-inspired looks, amplifying its theatrical edge.

Is NZ’s supermarket duopoly our biggest cost of living threat? | The Front Page

Published

on

Don’t you think it’s time for New Zealand to have more supermarket options?

The Government’s announced a new guide for international chains wanting to set up shop here.

It’s all in the hope of luring overseas investors to break up our duopoly grocery sector.

Associate Finance Minister David Seymour has said the guidelines are like rolling out a red carpet for those looking here to invest – but, the question is, will anyone actually want to walk it?

Today on The Front Page, Grocery Action Group chair Sue Chetwin is with us to explain why the option and ownership problems go deeper than new rules, and whether this could really change what’s on Kiwi dinner tables.

Host: Chelsea Daniels

Executive Producer: Jane Yee
