All very well and good building masses of houses because of uncontrolled immigration…. but then you have lost the farmland needed to feed them. It is madness assuming that we can rely on importing a significant proportion of our food when there will be every greater demand for it from elsewhere in a population exploding world.

You can not keep building on 'more land' without destroying our existing countryside….until, there is none left for tourism (natural beauty) and food production (stop the mass migration and demand wont far outstrip supply).
Priority 1 is to prioritise jobs by necessity, rather than have a free for all. Then you wont run out of nurses etc and such under the strain of mass migration because no one wanted to coordinate the distribution of labour. That demands strict border control/mangement.
You are already flooding 1000s of homes every year with inane building policies, urban spread, with concrete and tarmac everywhere and zero water/storm/flood management.

    Growth comes through investement.
    Investment targets innovation.
Innovation is the latest R&D put into the 'real world'.
R&D does not exist without native education and training pathways, as opposed to asset stripping every other nation of their own human investments.

Building/adding ever more is simply a ponzi sceme (except being as a function of repairing/repurposing/maintaining the old), with the same outcomes as every other scam.
Upgrading and replacing, while keeping a steady population rate, can easily create the demand, without destroying the countryside and replacing its native occupants, to suit diabolical political endeavours.
Granted, there are some areas that are uninhabitable and unwanted natural areas.
Developing that land would be no bad thing.

Stop giving money to other countries, get rid of illegal immigrants would be a start

  16. @notjustforhackers4252

    December 24, 2023 at 8:10 am

Removing all illegal economic migrants forcing wage growth that then gets redistributed back into the economy rather than into the off shore bank accounts of employers.
Indexing the cost of renting a home to the minimum wage, diverting money away from foreign and domestic landlords and their off shore bank accounts and back into the economy stimulating growth.

Not voting Tory, not voting Labour.

    It's a start.

Vastly reduce immigration (net 20k a year inwards) and train our own people with high value skills. Btw why does Tom refuse to even mutter the word immigration?

  25. @philiplindley7384

    December 24, 2023 at 8:10 am

In the UK we are an oldish civilisation and we've become too precious.
We've become too passive and scared of upsetting anyone at all.
    I can't see that changing.
We SHOULD be using the cheapest energy – Gas and our own resources to produce high cost goods for export but we'd be accused of damaging the planet by all the Nimbys.
Even Germany isn't afraid to go back to 'dirty' energy if it needs to, but we are.

Watch as Will Kensington expresses concern about the state of the UK, arguing that Downing Street is no longer a place of power but has instead become Britain’s most expensive Airbnb.

This comes as Andy Burnham is set to become the UK’s seventh Prime Minister in a decade, with seemingly no one challenging the “King of the North” for the country’s top job.
