1.7 million more people told to shield from coronavirus in England – BBC News
The number of people in England being asked to shield to protect themselves from coronavirus is being expanded.
The government is recommending an extra 1.7 million people be added to the 2.3 million already on the list.
Half the group have not yet been vaccinated and will now be prioritised by their local GPs.
The change has been prompted by new assessments of the dangers of Covid to some people, based on a combination of risk factors including medical conditions, obesity, gender and ethnic background.
Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by health editor Hugh Pym.
