Problem is people don't want to buy British. They'd rather save 15% on inferior products from the continent or worse – save 40% by buying in from the far east. I offer people chairs that are 100% green with a carbon footprint of 0 however they don't want to spend that money. They'd rather save 60% buying from china, where the footprint exceeds the cost of the chair itself… Not to mention the ethical issues of supporting the CCP..

Manufacturing has "well paid jobs". I am not sure I agree with that, although, of course, it all depends upon one's references. I found that as a skilled aerospace engineer my income was low compared to other "professions", such as law, medicine and "financial services". Most folk in England don't really know what "an engineer" is. They lump engineers, technicians and production assemblers as one ugly and rather unappealing mess.

Judging the economy on one month's figures is misguided. One swallow doth not a Summer make.
The wealth-creating private sector never stopped during lockdown. But a lot of people took their long-overdue annual leave this Summer – LOTS of it. I know people who've had three holidays this Summer because they were nearing burnout and fed up.

What manufacturing? We have imported 30% more from China since the scamdemic began, not less. And you need raw materials to manufacture stuff. Forget electronics because China owns 85% of the world's rare earth mines. And does anybody think our youth with their worthless degrees are going to work in factories? 😂

When will people realise the reality of the situation where in ANY western country that thinks it can complete at any level with China is deluding itself until it realises what needs to happen… China's success is not based on anything other than it has a first world infrastructure with third world wages, property is 43 times the average wage… If you want to compete with China you will need those circumstances in your country…

When you spend multiple years ripping out the heart of your own country to use slave labour from other countries, then eventually you will have to reap what you sow.
I take care of my own home not my neighbours, British industries would have done well to learn this, instead of chasing money for the sake of chasing money.

Creating a cutting edge manufacturing (Like Mittelstand) is a long process. You cannot create a mamufacturing region with just one click. You need to change your education system to create skilled workers.

There is a Facebook.group called Buy British Made – more is manufactured here than you think. We should buy British.
We need to stop pushing kids into university and instead encourage them to take up apprenticeships so there won't be a skills shortage.

Margaret Thatcher proudly closed 90% of industrial Britain in the 1980s and turned our great country into a ‘service’ industry. Skilled Engineers from the Welsh Valleys told told to get a job at a Call Centre on half the wages.
And the Conservatives disinvestment in education and apprenticeships in the 90s and 20s was the final nail in the coffin.

Yes it can be part of the recovery. We have needed to get back to manufacturing for years. Need to start educating the young ones that skilled labour and factory work is a good thing.
