Speaking to Nigel Farage, Liam Halligan exposes Labour’s shocking youth unemployment figures as rates soar to 16.1 percent under the current government, leaving young people struggling to find work in a deteriorating job market. Halligan predicts Britain’s dire economic state will trigger a major political shift toward fiscally prudent politicians, echoing the transformative elections of 1979 and 2010 when voters rejected economic mismanagement.

Problem is people don't want to buy British. They'd rather save 15% on inferior products from the continent or worse – save 40% by buying in from the far east. I offer people chairs that are 100% green with a carbon footprint of 0 however they don't want to spend that money. They'd rather save 60% buying from china, where the footprint exceeds the cost of the chair itself… Not to mention the ethical issues of supporting the CCP..

You won. You got your Brexit. Now enjoy the sunlit uplands with frolicking unicorns. Weird that nobody claims ownership for this titanic victory. I wonder why?
I find this truly remarkable. You completely screwed over manufacturing via Brexit, and now you want that manufacturing saves your sorry rear ends?

Manufacturing has "well paid jobs". I am not sure I agree with that, although, of course, it all depends upon one's references. I found that as a skilled aerospace engineer my income was low compared to other "professions", such as law, medicine and "financial services". Most folk in England don't really know what "an engineer" is. They lump engineers, technicians and production assemblers as one ugly and rather unappealing mess.

Economic is a shamble across the rich, they are getting richer out of printing and borrowed money to fill they needs, and we the tax payer's and savers pick out the bill, not Government. Blessings 🙏 Amen 😔 😔➕

The Treasury could easily increase investment in UK businesses by giving tax breaks to investors. It won't of course, they don't want well paid workers in quality manufacturing.

We don’t produce much, loads of British manufacturers have already moved to Eastern European countries pre Brexit.

January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
Judging the economy on one month's figures is misguided. One swallow doth not a Summer make.
The wealth-creating private sector never stopped during lockdown. But a lot of people took their long-overdue annual leave this Summer – LOTS of it. I know people who've had three holidays this Summer because they were nearing burnout and fed up.

January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
What manufacturing? We have imported 30% more from China since the scamdemic began, not less. And you need raw materials to manufacture stuff. Forget electronics because China owns 85% of the world's rare earth mines. And does anybody think our youth with their worthless degrees are going to work in factories? 😂

When will people realise the reality of the situation where in ANY western country that thinks it can complete at any level with China is deluding itself until it realises what needs to happen… China's success is not based on anything other than it has a first world infrastructure with third world wages, property is 43 times the average wage… If you want to compete with China you will need those circumstances in your country…

When you spend multiple years ripping out the heart of your own country to use slave labour from other countries, then eventually you will have to reap what you sow.
I take care of my own home not my neighbours, British industries would have done well to learn this, instead of chasing money for the sake of chasing money.
@DavidBrown-sr8di
January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
Not if foreign are continually allowed to buy out key companies especially America and China asset strippers. Why does American companies have a strangle hold on food manufacture and supply. Why are these companies allowed to continue without paying appropriate taxes?
@muratdagdelen8163
January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
Creating a cutting edge manufacturing (Like Mittelstand) is a long process. You cannot create a mamufacturing region with just one click. You need to change your education system to create skilled workers.
@denisemeredith2436
January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
There is a Facebook.group called Buy British Made – more is manufactured here than you think. We should buy British.
We need to stop pushing kids into university and instead encourage them to take up apprenticeships so there won't be a skills shortage.
@tomthomassony8607
January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
Margaret Thatcher proudly closed 90% of industrial Britain in the 1980s and turned our great country into a ‘service’ industry. Skilled Engineers from the Welsh Valleys told told to get a job at a Call Centre on half the wages.
And the Conservatives disinvestment in education and apprenticeships in the 90s and 20s was the final nail in the coffin.
@MikeHarrison3266
January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
As far as the UK is concerned the plan has worked very well, with our importation of aliens stacked on covid we are well and truly screwed and exactly where we are supposed to be.
It is ok though, the government is here to help, trust them.

FTSE 100 last 5 years grow 4.58%, Dow Jones Industrial last 5 years 91.82%. Hopefully, it means that the British stock market is healthier.

No….because the Government is raiding tax coffers at every opportunity, hence NI and tax increases, once they get enough in the pot, they will raid it again… this is a money grab by a corrupt government.
@Hardman._

Businesses should be incentivised to hire British workers. Over reliance on labour from overseas is one of main factors.
@donny121able
January 25, 2024 at 12:40 am
Yes it can be part of the recovery. We have needed to get back to manufacturing for years. Need to start educating the young ones that skilled labour and factory work is a good thing.
