It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.

I have serious doubts Mr. Guy "Empire of the good guys" Verhofstadt ever had any intention of compromise or serious negotiations himself, so I guess he knows what he's talking about. It's the pot calling the kettle black. As soon as I heard he would be the EU's Brexit coordinator, I knew there would be no genuine openness to compromise on the part of the EU, rather the wish to make an example of the UK to other nations to dissuade them from trying to leave. Welcome to Hotel California!

I am referring to “deals” in the broad sense of understandings, arrangements, conventions or treaties. The EU is a standard-setting organisation, and whether or not they like the standards that EU members agree upon, non-member States in Europe and elsewhere can hardly ignore them.

Revoke -and then in a year or two's time have another referendum. This time one that's not crooked, where people are fully informed about the likely consequences, where the likes of Aaron Banks are prevented from buying the outcome. The referendum rules need to be rewritten to prevent liars and their gutter press from misleading the public and to introduce a minimum of 60/40 (20% majority) in favour before any major change is made. There needs to be that level of agreement to carry us through such difficult times -a mere 4% won't do it. We are just too divided on the issue 47-51 is pretty much 50-50

I don't see any impasse. They had a deal, they didn't like it, and now they are wasting everyone's time with proposals of double invisible borders monitored by some kind of unexplained magic technology. Time to get what they wanted and get out with no deal. I'm only sorry for the millions of smart British people who voted to remain. They are getting the burn of it without any fault.

BoZo produced nothing more than lazy thoughts on an envelope.
The fact that it was a draft proposal and is partly secret made the EU sceptical. Quite rightly, this is a swine of a PM they're dealing with.

Boris Johnson’s Brexit plan will not be approved by the European Union because the plan is in the best interests of the Republic of Ireland and the European Union do not give a shit about the Republic of Ireland. The European Union just wants to retain exclusive and immutable control over the UK, one of if most powerful member states.

The EU is going to struggle with a no deal. We are too. But………. We are free to trade with whoever we want to and stroke up free trade deals afterwards. The EU27 aren't. They have no mechanism or even an option to get out of that and they are acting that way. They have no where to turn whereas we do. And before you hammer me with comments it will take time I know but it is only temporary for us. It's not for them.

You can't simply say "This will keep the Northern Irish happy". That's a nonsense as history will readily tell you. Instead please consider replacing that phrase with the following: "This might keep the DUP MPs saying they are happy.". Most Northern Irish will probably be opposed to this non serious proposal as it will wreck their economy both ways, with 2 borders to contend with. But the DUP want to cling on for dear life to an uncaring England because they will lose face otherwise. Remember this, they rejected the Good Friday Peace Agreement once already; it seems that they're keen to reject it a second time with the Johnson-Cummings document.

It would be interesting to see a video on how the UK’s negotiating position is different on Brexit-related matters (where it has virtually exited the EU already and has to deal with the EU as a bloc) from all other matters dealt with by the EU (where it continues to be part of the permanent negotiation process that characterizes the EU, with the possibility to strike deals with individual member States or groups thereof). That possibility – not the enchantment with the EC/EU project – was after all an important reason why the UK decided to join the EU in the first place some fifty years ago.
