Hello from Ireland. I don't know why the Unionists or the British in general are so worried about the European Court of Justice having a "say". Currently there are 233 former British Soldiers living in Britain who committed First Degree Murder in Ireland (Shooting unarmed civilians in the back, murdering small children etc) and not one of them has ever been charged with anything. The ECJ has never even made a comment about this so this "say" that the ECJ have is only an imaginary one. Rock on boys you need have no fear of the ECJ.

I hate to see this agreement. Why is the EU helping to solve the UK's problems at the expense of the EU? Another year and UK exports will be tunneled through Northern Island. The EU gets nothing from this agreement, except that the UK will be able to circumvent regulations and the whole Brexit opera will continue for decades to come.

The whole idea that the UK would honor the agreement to make sure that goods on the green lane stay in NI is ludicrous.

OR, Sunak could do the right thing by calling a new Brexit referendum (including reversing Brexit itself), and let the population decide what to do. That way he can't be blamed for the fallout

You know what makes the most sense. Just make it all an Irish state. This is long past due. It makes no sense for it to be two seperate countries. East and West Germany did it, it has not stopped them from being a country. Ireland would be a lot better off as one country.

The Windsor Framework merely reinforces the Protocol it changes nothing, meanwhile we in Northern Ireland remain without Government. I watched Rishi Sunak recently with Emanuel Macron. Let’s hope he solves migration too. Tough talk is good hopefully the actions follow soon. If the highest majority of people in the boats are Albania young men (nearly a third of all arrivals) which is a safe country then there really is no realistic argument that they are all deserving refugees and not economic migrants. The worst thing is a huge number of them are then exploited or turn to criminal gangs. Look up the parliamentary committee debates for the government actually telling the truth and confirming the statistic on this. Basically they are exploiting human trafficking legislation to create lucrative criminal gangs

  41. @socat9311

Brexit will be studied for years. A meaningless move based on sentiment. Asking people to vote on a matter they can't possibly know anything about. One of the strongest economies, with its own currency. Shows you what appealing to fake national sentiment can do, and that not everything should be put to a vote

I don't think this new agreement will last long. Rather, I expect an increasing violation of the European internal market through smuggling, which we in the EU will not accept in the long run.

  45. @luismiguelmaroto4730

    December 20, 2023 at 7:43 pm

  46. @Paul-eb4jp

    December 20, 2023 at 7:43 pm

The EU will never concede on the ECJ and why should they? They've already shown remarkable patience, I really hope this sidelines Johnson for good.

  47. @sabinenadal8470

    December 20, 2023 at 7:43 pm

controls will still be in place with this framework. Goods moving in the green lane will still be subject to customs declarations, albeit much simplified. The EU is clear that the trusted trader scheme, which underpins all this, can be suspended if the UK fails to provide access to the relevant UK IT customs systems and databases, or the UK does not live up to the commitments it undertook when setting up the trusted trader scheme. if you can’t be sure of end destination of goods when first moving them into NI you will have to use the red lane though there will (finally) be a tariff reimbursement scheme when you can show that those goods did not ultimately enter the EU.

    December 20, 2023 at 7:43 pm

Return northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland, British occupation no more

  49. @lexslate2476

    December 20, 2023 at 7:43 pm

I really don't think the DUP's opinions should be taken seriously. Last I heard they picked a young-earther to lead them, and I think that means they're all too stupid to function.
