Raw sewage dumped into England’s rivers 375,000 times last year – BBC News
Raw sewage was discharged into rivers in England nearly 375,000 times by water companies last year, according to the Environment Agency.
The UK government has said that this is unacceptable and is promising a 40% reduction by 2040.
‘Citizen scientists’ have been taking samples from waterways near their homes to find out just how much sewage and other chemicals are in the water.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News
The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News
President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News
The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

These water companies are running rings around the watchdogs/authorities and making absolute fools of them by deliberately falsifying reports, and then getting rewarded for their so called good behaviour through their reports which have all been falsified/manipulated to hide their disgusting practises in deliberately releasing sewage into lakes and rivers even at the height of summer, this should be a much bigger story and the public need to act on this because the useless toothless and incompetant authorities and governments sure won't.

Good to see the same practices going on. What is it, the 90s, or the 80s? They(the water companies) just say the same nonsense, the toothless EA, always say the same, nothing changes.

This is a national scandal.😡Just as the privatisation in the late 1980s was. Apart from windfall taxes and massive fines being imposed, some of the water company senior managers should now be facing prison sentences.🤬

Concerning Chichester Harbour, there was a Country File(?) program covering the great decline in Oysters there, they weren't transitioning into females, and it was found that the males were presumably extremely stressed because their insides were full of splinters of glass…presumably being bivalves they were breathing in these splinters from particles breaking off the fibreglass boats in the harbour? Is this a growing problem in other places as well? Is fibreglass going to turn out to be a problem similar to asbestos?

How many of the people in this video actually voted Tory in the past and now? The very party that brought in the privatisation policies that have lead to this total shambles. These things happen because the stupid and deluded people of England voted for it to happen. It’s our fault for letting them get away with it for so long. What did we actually expect ? …..That privatised water companies would decide to invest long term with billions into upgrading their worn out infrastructure and take that money out of the precious dividends of shareholders ( most of whom aren’t even British ) ? Wake up people , it was never going to work and you have allowed yourselves to be scammed.

Water companies waited for Brexit then started releasing raw sewerage. Now they are going to spend billions to mop it up so they can increase the bills to you. All this whilst they have been paying out dividends to themselves and at the same time borrowing money from their friends in the city so they can as individuals can earn interest which is paid by, guess who? Paid by YOU in your increased bill. These are not water companies. They are foreign corporations looting the UK economy.

we can complain untill the cows come come home but the fact is the sharholders and directors dont give a toss because if it became law to stop pumping waste in to waterways and the sea then those that have earned millions will just leave there jobs and live a comfortable lifystyle i would not be surprised that the directors of these copanys are very rich tories that have no concience.

What were the promises around public services privatisation?
Better services, more efficiency, cheaper…
The usual con, as we discover today that greedy shareholders made cuts around used water treatments and dropped sewage directly in rivers and sea.
The head news was: Unprecedented apologies about the VOLONTARY pollution made for pure profit. Sorry guys; we keep our jobs, we keep our bonuses, we are just sorry, and by the way the build of the infrastructures needed will be reported on YOUR bill…
Those people should be in court, the shareholders’ dividends ceased, those people should be in jail and the companies nationalized again to become again with better services, more efficient, cheaper… they lied, they polluted for years, and now they show us the finger.
Where were the controls from the state? Did they turn a blind eye on it? Did they knew?
Purely disgusting.

Water companies have a mental problem when it comes to their duties . They see only the interests of shareholders and the senior management bonuses . Some 20 years ago the company were found to be flooding my property from the reservoir next to me and they promised to rectify it . When they realised the cost this amounted to a shallow inadequate "Dutch Drain' . The flooding continues but all efforts to retain then failed . Finally with the drought last years their own land dried out causing subsidence and displacement between the huge valves and the pipework and they failed. The subsequent flooding meant that they could no longer deny the flooding problem . It took 20 tons of special ballast a deep trench properly lined to address the problem and expensive restructuring of all the on-sight structures . No effort was made to address then years of damp and cold it was :WE HAVE STOPPED FLOODING YOU " end of story .However in that 20 years . this site has been used to alter the pumping arrangements that previous existed with its adjacent site some half a mile away .
THAT REARRANGEMENT RELEASED A LARGE ACREAGE OF LAND ONN WHICH !))"S OF HOUSES HAVE BEEN BUILT> Non-water profit all challenged to shareholder and management while they failed to honour the original commitment to stop flooding me because of cost and when eventually they had to take action because their own eqipmne was being threatened any thought of compensation for past effects to our living were not even considered .
On3 wonders who these people are that happily destroy our rivers and beaches etc when the money has always been there to pay for the work
When the water companies were privatised I wrote to John Major who I knew when he was a far from capable banker and before the bank had offered to find him a seat in parliament .
I TOLD HIM THEN : YOU ARE NOT SELLING A WATER COMPANY YOU ARE SELLING A PROPERTY COMPANY
There's sufficient non-water assets to ring fence that could be used to compel the company to improve its water related obligation lacks and sewage outlets and still get the money from privatisation .
It was the most oversubscribed privatisation of the lot for obvious reason . Even the man on the street could see that it had been grossly undersold .My experience here proves this. They baulked at the cost of preventing the flooding while pocketing £millions on property development using thisn site which also yields vast non-water income from satellite and radio masts .
@erikoganbare6546

The tories just recently voted en mass to allow water companies to continue this practice for the next 15-50 years, enough is enough these companies have had 30+ years to get there act together, they are run to ensure profits for overseas owners, massive directors salaries & dividends to shareholders, when they need to do infrastructure maintenance they go into debt to fund it, time to take these companies back into public ownership on environmental grounds, take back not buy back because they have fleeced us enough already!.

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. (Psalms 51:1-4)
