A police manhunt is underway after a series of knife attacks in Birmingham city centre last night in which one person was stabbed to death and seven others were wounded. West Midlands Police have released CCTV footage of a suspect and are appealing for anyone who might have information or evidence to come forward. All support acts on Ed Sheeran’s US tour have quit after the rapper Macklemore was dropped from the line-up.

He had been opening on the tour, but was let go after saying “Free Palestine” at two concerts.

Sheeran said he wouldn’t be drawn into a public debate over Gaza.

Up to 3 million people in Hong Kong are to be granted new rights to live and work in the UK. The decision follows China’s imposition of a new security law which makes it a crime to undermine Beijing’s authority.

Boris Johnson denounced the legislation as a “clear and serious breach” of the 1985 Sino-British joint declaration, which set out how certain freedoms would be protected for 50 years after China took over sovereignty of Hong Kong in 1997.
