WARNING: Big Tech Is Cutting Jobs to Buy AI – New Data Shows the Productivity Promise Is a Lie
In 2026, the tech industry has seen significant corporate restructuring, with 144,000 tech workers laid off and projections for 360,000 by year-end, largely due to AI layoffs. This trend raises concerns about the future of work and the evolving job market. However, recent Gartner research indicates that cutting headcount to fund AI does not necessarily improve business returns.
