Iranian ambassador warns UK to be ‘very careful’ about further involvement in war | BBC News

Published

The Iranian ambassador in London has warned the UK to be “very careful” about becoming further involved in the war.

Seyed Ali Mousavi told Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg his country would have a “right to self-defence” if the UK directly joined US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

He warned that Iran expected the British government, and others, “to be very delicate, very careful” in their actions.

The UK has given permission for the US to use British bases for what ministers describe as defensive strikes on Iranian facilities, but has not taken part in any direct attacks itself.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino says he has scrapped the controversial plan to sell off stakes in the governing body’s major competitions, following widespread opposition.

Infantino said it had become clear the project had “created divisions” that are “no longer in the interest” of its original objective.

The Swiss official added: “As a result, this proposal will not proceed.”

Infantino had offered all 211 member associations $40m (£30m) if they backed a proposal for private investment in its tournaments, including the men’s and women’s World Cups.

The discovery led to one of the most complex investigations in Humberside Police’s history, with help from the National Crime Agency.

At the heart of this are grieving families. In their darkest days, they fought for laws to regulate the funeral industry so that others never suffer their pain – or guilt – again.

Infantino had offered Fifa’s 211 member associations $40m (£30m) if they backed a proposal for private investment in its tournaments, including the men’s and women’s World Cups.

However, Uefa – which governs European football – responded by voting to boycott World Cups if the plans went ahead, and other governing bodies also voiced their opposition.
