New Epstein file emails raise fresh questions over Andrew claims in Newsnight interview | BBC News
Following the latest release of the Epstein files, claims made by the then Prince Andrew in the 2019 BBC Newsnight interview have been put into question.
The BBC’s Sean Coughlan and Sarah Campbell have gone through the interview to compare Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s replies with emails which were apparently sent by and to the former prince.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is facing growing pressure from US officials and the family of his prominent accuser Virginia Giuffre to testify in the US about his links to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
We have contacted Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for comment. He has previously denied any wrongdoing.

Are US Democrats turning against Israel? | Global News Podcast
We ask the BBC’s Washington correspondent Bernd Debusmann how the Democrats have changed their attitude towards Israel in light of the war in Gaza, and the conflict in Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been meeting President Donald Trump in Washington, at a tense time for US-Israel relations. Though they entered the war with Iran as partners, President Trump has publicly criticised Israel over its handling of the conflict – even calling Mr Netanyahu “crazy” in a phone call about Israel’s fight against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, more than 100 House Democrats recently voted to cut military aid to Israel. And some of the parties top figures – including California Governor Gavin Newsom and Senator Cory Booker have promised not to accept any money from the pro-Israel lobby group AIPAC.
Bernd tells us that in the wake of the Gaza war, a new generation of politicians, like New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, have come to represent many young American voters’ growing frustration with the Israeli government.

US President Donald Trump hosts Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at White House | BBC News
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met with President Donald Trump in Washington DC for their first in-person talks since US airstrikes on Iran began in February.
The meeting comes amid signs of growing friction between the two leaders. Trump has publicly criticised Israel for continuing strikes in Lebanon and ignoring a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state broadcaster said two men who took part in nationwide anti-government protests earlier this year have been publicly executed in the city of Isfahan.
And elsewhere, Oman has reportedly proposed a regional system for managing the Strait of Hormuz, following technical talks with Tehran.

European nations to boycott World Cup if Fifa goes ahead with investment plan | BBC News
Uefa’s 55 member associations have voted to boycott World Cups if Fifa proceeds with its plan to sell stakes in its competitions to private investors.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting called to discuss the proposals announced by Fifa – world football’s governing body – on Tuesday.
Uefa, which governs European football, had made its opposition clear by releasing two damning statements about the plans – and that strength of feeling has now been reaffirmed.
The boycott would cover all Fifa competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups and Club World Cup, and be triggered if Fifa president Gianni Infantino’s proposals are voted through by member associations.
