In the 1920s, Americans could buy health in a tiny glass bottle — for one dollar. It was called Radithor: radium in distilled water, sold as a cure for fatigue, weakness, and much more. Its makers said it was harmless in every respect. It was not. This is the story of William J. A. Bailey and the Bailey Radium Laboratories of East Orange, New Jersey, of champion golfer Eben Byers, who drank Radithor on his doctor’s advice from December 1927 until 1930, and of how the evidence — and the law — finally changed. A note on how this video was made: it uses one verified photograph of a real 1920s Radithor bottle, plus clearly labelled title cards. No AI images were used. Sections without a verified historical visual use a title card, not a fabricated photograph. This video explains a historical belief respectfully. It is not medical advice. Radium is dangerous: do not ingest radioactive material.
