What next after ex-Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina sentenced to death | BBC News
Bangladesh’s former prime minister has been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity over her crackdown on student-led protests which led to her ousting.
Sheikh Hasina was found guilty of allowing lethal force to be used against protesters, 1,400 of whom died during the unrest last year.
Hasina was tried in absentia by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh, having been exiled in India since she was forced from power in July 2024.
The former prime minister has denied all charges, calling the trial “biased and politically motivated”.

Jeffrey Epstein, Howard Lutnick, and the disgraced former prince | The Global Story
In an exclusive investigation, a whistleblower has told the BBC how he unearthed evidence suggesting that US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick failed to disclose a business relationship with the paedophile financier, Jeffrey Epstein.
Simon Andriesz was a trader at one of Lutnick’s Wall Street firms, but it wasn’t until the Epstein files were released earlier this year that he says he confirmed a longstanding suspicion that his boss was misrepresenting his relationship with Epstein.
BBC financial investigations correspondent Andy Verity joins The Global Story’s Tristan Redman us to unpack the new investigation.
