on

The shock of any invasion of Ukraine by Russia would “echo around the world”, Boris Johnson has told world leaders.

He said we must be “unflinchingly honest” about the situation in Ukraine and should not “underestimate the gravity of this moment”.

Western nations have warned Russia could invade Ukraine imminently, with over 130,000 of its troops near the border.

Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw major drills of Russia’s strategic nuclear missile forces from Moscow on Saturday.

Trump reinstates Iran port blockade and vows charge on cargo passing through Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”. The blockade will be in effect from 16:00 Eastern Time (20:00 GMT) on Tuesday.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

Published

on

A woman who was almost killed in an attack but whose 999 call helped save her life has seen her former partner sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder.

After months in a coercive relationship, Caz Goddard said she finally asked James Stock to leave her home near Weston-super-Mare, UK in July last year.

The next thing she remembered was Stock knocking her to the floor and strangling her.

Caz was on the phone to the police when she was assaulted, and managed to hide her phone in some plants so the entire call was recorded.
