Donald Trump says Israel and Hamas agree to first phase of Gaza peace plan | BBC News

Published

on

US President Donald Trump has announced that “Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan”.

“This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line”, Trump said on Truth Social.

Mediators from the US, Egypt and Qatar in Sharm El-Sheikh have been attempting to broker an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and a release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.

The negotiations come two years and two days after Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the 7 October 2023 attack, in which Hamas-led gunmen killed about 1,200 people and took 251 others as hostages.

At least 67,183 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza since then, the Hamas-run health ministry says.

Did adult entertainment sites invent monetising attention? | BBC News

Published

on

With the advent of OnlyFans, pornographic content has become a fixture of mainstream social media. But the influence of the adult entertainment industry on internet culture arguably began decades ago. On this episode, Matt and Marianna are joined by journalist Patricia Nilsson who has reported extensively on the secretive personalities who control ‘Big Porn’ and the business model behind it. We discuss the revolutionary data tracking practices first implemented by so-called tube sites to monetise attention, the regulatory trade-off between safety and privacy, and why anonymity online may be leading to more extreme pornography fuelled by our most primal instincts.

Top Comment is hosted by Marianna Spring and Matt Shea.

The President has said he has no plans for immediate strikes on Iran after the vote, but the region remains on alert for any further military action.

The BBC’s International Editor, Jeremy Bowen – alongside colleagues from the United States and BBC Persian – provides analysis of what the midterm results mean for the war and where things might go from here.
