On 26 August, a devastating flash flood tore through a Himalayan valley on the Nepal-Tibet border, killing more than 1,300 people.

Within hours, videos began circulating on social media. Many were real clips showing the disaster unfolding, but others raised new questions.

In this episode, BBC Verify correspondent Merlyn Thomas takes you behind the scenes as our team works to piece together the story in real time and explains with any natural disaster, one of the first things we see is a rush of misinformation.

Follow the clues with us in the newsroom as we geolocate online videos, debunk AI-generated content and use satellite imagery to try to understand what happened.

This is BBC Verify’s reporting process as you’ve never seen before.

Published

on

MPs have voted against a fresh move to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales. The bill would have allowed adults with fewer than six months to live to apply to be given help to end their life.

Adam is joined by Ailbhe Rea, Political Editor of the New Statesman and Lara Spirit, Deputy Political editor of the Sunday Times to unpack the politics of the result and to reflect on the other big events in Westminster this week.

Including the moment the new Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced a fundamental shift on the government’s approach to Israel. Also, they discuss the news that Zack Polanski has been confirmed as the Green Party candidate for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election taking place next month, and whether the greens think they can win.
