Artist Name: TamaraSkye
Song Title: Front Page News

About the entry:
I wrote this song to describe the frustrations and anxiety that my generation (Gen Z) are now facing due to years of mistreatment of the Earth and how we must be the ones to fight back and try to save it. I wrote it not long after becoming vegetarian – I watched lots of documentaries including seaspiracy and learnt just how bad the fishing industry was. The ‘Dolphin safe’ companies are just for show- no one monitors them, and there’s sea slavery-people suffering to fill my plate. I felt stupid that I didn’t know the extent of it, as I thought I was well educated but these things are hidden from us by big corporate companies. Hence the title: Front Page News.

About the artist:
I’m in my final year at university studying Music and Drama and am hoping to go on to do a masters in Commercial Songwriting and Music Production in London. I’m a singer, cellist and pianist and have been passionate about music from a young age. I hope to become a professional singer-songwriter writing music in the neo-soul/jazz/hip hop/pop genre and more.

pFITE24:
You may have caught our pilot pFITE series which aired in Spring 2023. We were delighted with the engagement this project generated, and so this year we aim to take things up a level. By unearthing more great talent and reaching an even wider audience, we hope to spark positive discussion on something we should all be passionate about – the environment. This year, whilst using the pFITE name, we will be accepting entries from any, and all, genres or music.

By joining this project, you will have access to all that Home Stage has to offer, with specialists in production, promotion and business. With experienced professional musicians on the team, we understand the needs of up-and-coming artists, and how to elevate your profile.
As we start to receive more and more entries, we will be organising events around the country for our artists to appear at. At Home Stage, we are only looking to cover our costs. Any profits we receive will be shared between the performers, with the very best being invited to showcase their talents at a final performance in a national venue.

The pFITE24 entry with the greatest number of likes will receive a prize of £10,000. Please note that only videos within our “pFITE24 – Entries” YouTube playlist are eligible for the prize. Don’t forget to like and share your favourites!

Who Cooks For You? Calls Ring Out Between Barred Owl Mates In Indiana | April 22, 2026

Published

on

Turn up your volume and listen to the classic call of the Barred Owl! In this clip, the female perks up after hearing her mate call from the forest, and the two owls trade calls back and forth.

Barred Owls have a distinctive hooting call of 8–9 notes, described as “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” This call carries well through the woods and is fairly easy to imitate. During courtship, mated pairs perform a riotous duet of cackles, hoots, caws and gurgles.

Stay tuned for another amazing year watching the Wild Birds Unlimited Barred Owls. Watch live at http://allaboutbirds.org/barredowls for information, highlights, and a link to the outside view.

*******************************
Jim Carpenter, President and CEO of Wild Birds Unlimited, has hosted a camera-equipped owl box in his wooded backyard since 1999. Set more than 30 feet high against the trunk of a pignut hickory tree, this Barred Owl box was first occupied in 2006. Since then, the box has hosted several nests, including successful attempts since 2013.

The camera system was updated in 2023 with a 1080p Axis P3265-LVE security camera and connected to Jim’s house via 200 feet of ethernet cable. To keep predators like raccoons from investigating the nest, aluminum flashing was wrapped around the tree. An infrared illuminator in the box means you can keep track of the owls’ comings and goings throughout the night (don’t worry—the light is invisible to the owls).

Since the birds aren’t banded, we can’t tell whether this is the same pair as in past years. Although male and female Barred Owls look alike in their plumage, females can be up to a third bigger than males. You can also tell the difference between them by watching their behavior; only the female incubates the eggs and chicks, but the male is responsible for the bulk of the feeding, ferrying prey items to the incubating female, and sharing them with her inside and outside of the box.
