Coronavirus: more than 10,000 deaths as senior adviser says UK may be worst hit in Europe – BBC News
10,612 people have now died in hospital in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus. The figure does not include people who have died in care homes or in the community. The Health Secretary Matt Hancock called it a “sombre day”. One of the government’s senior scientific advisers said the UK is likely to become the worst-affected country in Europe. Sir James Farrar said the UK had lessons to learn from countries like Germany, which had tested and isolated infected people on a mass scale. There has also been more criticism of the government for failing to provide enough protective clothing to frontline workers. How worried should we be about the AI that went rogue and launched a cyber-attack? | BBC News
OpenAI has revealed some of its most advanced AI models went rogue and hacked a start-up after it lost control of them during a security test.
The ChatGPT-maker said its agent – an AI system which can operate alone after human instruction – was being tested in a controlled environment but, after finding weaknesses, was able to escape the test limits.
They targeted Hugging Face, one of the world’s largest hubs for sharing AI models, gaining access to some internal company systems.

A further 55,000 people have been evacuated from six towns in France, as wildfires which have caused devastation across the country pick up pace.
The most recent evacuations took place in towns to the south of Bordeaux, in the Gironde region.
Wildfires have raged across Europe over the past week, primarily France and Spain, where more than 330,000 people have been evacuated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sacked the country’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
His dismissal comes just days after the removal of popular Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov – a move that triggered street protests across the country.
Initial rumours that the end of Fedorov’s tenure was related to a conflict between him and Syrskyi were soon confirmed.
