Nato is urged to target Russian drones over Ukraine and other top stories | Global News Podcast
A US-based think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, has said Nato should consider intercepting Russian drones in Ukrainian airspace, after a drone struck a train near the Polish border. The attack happened soon after a train carrying top European security officials and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had passed through the same station. The Nato chief Mark Rutte said Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure near the bloc’s territory would not undermine the alliance’s unity or its support for Ukraine.

Brexit: UK to quit EU at 23:00 GMT – BBC News
The UK will leave the EU at 23:00 GMT, ending 47 years of membership.
In a video message to be released an hour earlier, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will call Brexit – which follows more than three years of political wrangling – a “new dawn”.
A series of events including marches, celebrations and candlelit vigils will be held by both Brexiteers and pro-EU demonstrators.
Little will change immediately, as the UK begins a “transition period”.
Most EU laws will continue to be in force – including the free movement of people – until the end of December, by which time the UK aims to have reached a permanent free trade agreement with the EU.

Ukraine and Russia strike energy targets despite Trump claim and other stories | Global News Podcast
There has been no pause in fighting between Russia and Ukraine, despite US President Donald Trump’s claim that both sides would temporarily stop targeting each other’s critical energy infrastructure. Russia says a gas pipeline was hit in the south of the country in an attack overnight, while officials in the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine said Russian attacks had disrupted power supplies to some areas. Moscow has targeted Ukraine’s power grid throughout the war, leading to significant blackouts. Meanwhile, Kyiv has ramped up its strikes on oil refineries and other energy facilities, as its drones and missiles reach further into Russian territory.

Trump unveils Middle East plan – BBC News
President Trump has unveiled his plans for what he claims is a credible peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians, including a promise to keep Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital. Mr Trump announced the proposals at the White House alongside the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The President said the deal ‘would work’ but no Palestinian officials were involved and they have rejected the proposals. At the heart of the conflict is a dispute over land ever since the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.
Tonight’s BBC News at Ten is presented by Huw Edwards with contributions from the BBC’s Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen and International Correspondent Orla Guerin.
