No survivors on plane Russia says was carrying 65 Ukrainian PoWs | BBC News
A Russian Ilyushin-76 military transport plane has crashed in the southern Belgorod region near Ukraine.
Russia’s ministry of defence said 65 captured Ukrainian military were on the plane heading to the area for a prisoner exchange.
Ukrainian military intelligence later released a statement accusing Russia of putting the lives of prisoners of war at risk.
It said it had not been told it had to ensure safe airspace over Belgorod.
The BBC cannot yet verify who was on board, or what caused the plane to crash.

US President Donald Trump said he will extend the ceasefire with Iran until talks between the two countries have progressed.
He also said the blockade of Iranian ports will also continue until Tehran presents a “unified proposal”.
The status of the US-Iran talks had been unclear with the current ceasefire previously due to expire this week.
The BBC’s chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet is reporting from Tehran on condition that none of her material is used on the BBC’s Persian Service. These restrictions apply to all international media organisations operating in Iran.

A man has been charged with attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump after a shooting occurred during the White House correspondents’ dinner.
Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California, allegedly crossed multiple state lines in an attempt to assassinate the president, according to federal prosecutor Jocelyn Ballantine.
In an interview after the shooting, Trump said he was “not worried” during the shooting – although authorities believe the president and other senior government figures were targets.

Trump confirms Secret Service agent was shot at White House Correspondents’ Dinner | BBC News
After being rushed from the White House Correspondent’s Dinner following gunshots, US President Donald Trump has confirmed that a man charged a security checkpoint at the event, armed with multiple weapons.
Speaking at a White House press briefing, the president stated that one Secret Service officer was shot from very close range, but was saved by his bullet-proof vest.
President Trump added that the suspect has been taken into custody.
Attorney General Todd Blanche said that charges will be filed shortly – and that they are self-evident.

US President Donald Trump has said next week’s state visit from King Charles and Queen Camilla could “absolutely” help improve relations with the UK.
When asked in a phone interview with the BBC whether the visit could help repair the relationship, Trump said: “Absolutely. He’s fantastic. He’s a fantastic man. Absolutely the answer is yes.”
“I know him well, I’ve known him for years,” he said.
The president also spoke about his relationship with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who he said could only “recover” if he changed course on immigration.
