Prada brand has acknowledged the Indian roots of its new footwear line, after the design sparked a controversy in India.
The sandals, showcased at the Milan Fashion Week, had an open-toe braided pattern that closely resembled the traditional Kolhapuri sandals made in the Indian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The luxury fashion brand described the sandals as âleather footwearâ but did not mention its Indian origins, prompting backlash and allegations of cultural appropriation in India.
Prada said that it recognises that the sandals are inspired by traditional Indian footwear.

The US Congress has passed Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill in a significant and hard-fought victory for the president and his domestic agenda.
After a gruelling session on Capitol Hill, the House of Representatives passed the bill by a vote of 218 to 214 on Thursday afternoon.
President Trump had given the Republican-controlled Congress a deadline of 4 July to get a final version of the bill to his desk to be signed into law.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill could add $3.3tn to federal deficits over the next 10 years and leave millions without health coverage – a forecast that the White House disputes.

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car crash in Spain aged 28.
The car left the road due to a tyre blow out while overtaking another car, local police said.
His brother, Andre Silva, also died in the crash.
Jota was a Portuguese international and a key part of the Liverpool side that won the Premier League last season.
The Portuguese national team said Jota was “not only a fantastic player” but “an extraordinary person who was respected by all his teammates and opponents”.

In those snippets of video, you can see how Meghan didn't fit in. She curtsied to Prince Charles during a church function, the only one who did, while grinning ear to ear. She is totally clueless of her role. She thought it was all fun and games. And, I totally believe the report that she and her friends went inside the Buckingham Palace rooms to take pictures of the private quarters. She is not just a commoner, she is just plain "common".
