Taking to the skies in a RAF Tornado in 360 Video- BBC News

Published

on

For nearly 40 years, the supersonic Tornado attack bomber has been at the heart of the RAF’s operations, from the Cold War to current missions over Iraq and Syria.

The jet is due to come out of service next year and as the RAF celebrates its centenary, the Today programme’s Sarah Montague was taken for a flight by Wing Commander James Heeps.

As 617 Sqn and TTTE ex-groundcrew on the GR1, this is the best video I've ever seen of a flight even though it was a 9 Sqn aircraft 🙂. The interactive camera is excellent. Sadly, I never got a trip in one before I left and even sadder is that they no longer grace our skies. I certainly miss them 😥

I was in Oman during the 1st gulf war. I remember standing with my dad Seeb and watching 2 tornados take off during the night with a deafening sound and full after burner, it was an amazing sight. The tornado is a marvel of engineering.

Your GPU must be awesome – the frame rates are keeping up with the plane (even at low level) – what is it 8Gb?

Pilots voice is so calming and formal like on bbc weatherforcast while buzzing past at fast speeds.Imagin that professionalism in war time… I never hear this off US fighter pilots. A lot of " OK BroOo Were going like mack 2 past I-Rack and wow what an awesome day to bomb!. Hey wingman look no hands" lol.

Billionaire Man Utd owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says club has “come off the rails” | BBC News

Published

on

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire co-owner of Manchester United, has told BBC Sports Editor Dan Roan that the football club has “come off the rails”.

The 72-year-old spent £1.3 billion buying a 29% stake in the club in 2024, in a deal which saw Ineos take control of football operations. Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United fan, is chairman of the petrochemicals company which has a big sport investment arm.

In a wide-ranging interview with BBC Sport earlier this month Ratcliffe addressed the side’s recent struggles on the pitch, as they languish in the bottom third of the Premier League table.

He said some Manchester United players are “not good enough” and some are “overpaid”. Midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho – who are on loan at other clubs – were name-checked by the billionaire as players his regime had “inherited”.

Ratcliffe also spoke of the club’s financial difficulties, saying it was set to run out of money by the end of 2025, unless it took action which he admitted was “unpopular”.

Yet despite the financial and team issues he referred to, Ratcliffe repeated a pledge that Manchester United would win silverware by 2028.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Dan Roan.

How did a journalist end up in a top secret US military group chat? | BBC Newscast

Published

Today, we look at the fall out after a journalist revealed that he had been mistakenly added to a groupchat where US security leaders were discussing air strikes in Yemen.

Many of the security officials on the Signal app chat have been testifying at a worldwide threat assessment hearing in the Senate.

Adam is joined by BBC chief presenter in Washington Caitríona Perry and former Pentagon top US government security official Celeste Wallander.

Plus, a lawyer investigating former Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe has found “credible evidence” he and his staff mistreated two female team members. He denies the allegations. Chris is on to explain what’s happening.
