Russia’s foreign minister and his US counterpart have held what they called “frank” talks to try to reduce the chance of a wider conflict in Ukraine.

Sergei Lavrov repeated denials that a huge Russian force assembled near Ukraine’s borders would be used to invade Ukraine.

Antony Blinken said America would respond severely to any invasion.
Pro-Russian rebels control large parts of eastern Ukraine since a ferocious war erupted nearly eight years ago.

Some 14,000 people were killed and at least two million fled their homes before fragile peace agreements were brokered.

The US and its allies have threatened new sanctions if the Russian military takes action.

I really hope that Putin holdsoff on his nukes, it would hurt the world, just not the UK. It's so sad that war is ALWAYS the answer… it shouldn't be that way. Why can't we just live in peace? It's CRAZY that war is ALWAYS the outcome. I just don't get it. I love everyone in this world, regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs, etc…. it just doesn't matter to me, we are ALL here,we are ALL HUMAN beings, WHY can't we ALL just live in peace? ❤😁 I know it'll never happen, but one can always hope I guess…

Putin to Zelensky: “Remember when we were so good together?”
Zelensky to NATO: “Just think how good we could be together?”

The United States is using Ukraine for military pressure on Russia. In the event of an escalation, Russia will strike with nuclear hypersonic weapons ON US TERRITORY. The first warning strike will be on a nuclear site in Nevada.

Dear fellow Humans of Europe and America please stop dividing other nations.
You are using Ukraine to counter Russia , just like you did with India by creating pakistan.
    My dear Ukrainian brothers,
Please understand the value of your land and stop stabbing Russia they are using you to stop Russias growth of supply of resources.
They fear that, If Russia manage to get the European market they neither compete with prices of resources nor they can control the economy with their selfish agenda….
They are using you, understand this..
Ukrainians are not important for them they just value your land to put Russia out of economical growth and European Market ….

Meta to pay up to $18bn to settle claims its platforms harm children | BBC News

Published

on

Social media giant Meta has agreed to a $18bn (£13.3bn) settlement with US states and territories to resolve claims that Facebook and Instagram harmed children.

A California judge approved the settlement, which Meta must pay to 48 states, plus the District of Columbia and three US territories, marking the company’s largest payment over child safety litigation to date.

Meta will also implement a host of changes aimed at better protecting kids online, which the states had demanded, including default daily time limits and night-time blocks.

Meta has denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement and said on Wednesday that the payment it agreed to “will be distributed in annual instalments over a 10-year period”.

PC Andrew Harper’s killers to stay in jail | BBC News Exclusive

Published

on

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has told the BBC that PC Andrew Harper’s killers will remain behind bars as he announces changes to the early release scheme aimed at easing prison overcrowding.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Breakfast, Burnham said anyone convicted of manslaughter will be excluded from changes brought in under the Sentencing Act, which would have made the killers eligible for early release.

Burnham said extra prison spaces would be created by deporting “hundreds” of foreign prisoners and releasing some inmates serving indefinite sentences.

At least 27 dead and hundreds evacuated after strike on Kyiv warehouse | BBC News

Published

on

Twenty-seven people have been killed and almost 400 evacuated after a Russian strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv, triggering a fire and a series of explosions.

Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said a further 42 people, including four children, were injured after the Russian drone strike in the Bucha district.

An investigation has been launched into whether ammunition was being stored at the site, where search and rescue operations were ongoing early on Saturday.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement that its forces had targeted “an ammunition depot” in the Kyiv region village of Myla, which stores “components and launch boosters for FP-1/FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles”.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the strike, saying that more than 300 emergency respondents had been deployed to the strike area.
