There have been a lot of sanctions programmes against Iran. But this week US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Operation Economic Outcast, which promises to go further than ever before.

It will punish not just Iran but any country helping Iran – including China. It is the Trump administration’s latest attempt to end the war. Will it work?

We speak to Vali Nasr,  professor of international affairs and Middle East studies at Johns Hopkins University, and ask whether in trying to end one war, President Trump risks starting a global trade conflict.

Thirty US states are suing Meta for over $1 trillion, accusing it of knowingly designing Instagram and Facebook to be addictive and harmful to children, while concealing what it knew.

If they win, it could force Meta to overhaul the platforms for good, ending features like “like” counts, infinite scroll and autoplay video.

At least 224 people are dead and a state of emergency has been declared after Colombia was hit by one of its largest earthquakes in years.

The death toll is likely to rise, with more feared trapped under collapsed buildings.

The magnitude 7.4 quake struck at 07:34 (12:34 GMT) at a depth of 103km (64 miles) in Chocó province, the country’s geological service said. It was felt across an enormous area, stretching for hundreds of miles across western Colombia.

Many of the deaths have been concentrated in Cali, Colombia’s third most populous city.
