Outrage as Ryanair plane “hijacked” by Belarus to arrest dissident journalist – BBC News
Belarus has been accused of hijacking a European passenger plane and engaging in “state terrorism”, after it forced a Ryanair flight to perform an emergency landing in Minsk and arrested an opposition blogger, who is critical of the country’s authoritarian president Alexander Lukashenko.
The Ryanair plane had been flying from Greece to Lithuania when it was diverted to the Belarusian capital, where the journalist Roman Protasevich was detained by police. State media in Belarus said the plane was forced to land because of a bomb scare.
There’s been a chorus of condemnation across Europe. The British foreign secretary said the action by the Belarusian authorities would have “serious implications”.

37 people have been killed after a huge explosion at an arms depot in Ukraine which was struck by a Russian drone. The ams storage facility was based near a residential areas on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv. Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the area and a rescue operation is continuing, with fears that the death toll will rise.
Shells, mines and drones stored at the facility exploded in a massive blast that destroyed nearby homes nearby, including a care home for the elderly and disabled.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly criticised the location of the depot near people’s homes, saying an investigation had been launched into “terrible negligence on the part of those who stored explosive right next to people”.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said that its forces had targeted “an ammunition depot”.

Hawk Fire wildfire in Nevada expected to rage for another two days, say officials | BBC News
US fire crews have reported progress in their efforts to tackle a large wildfire menacing the city of Reno, Nevada – saying the blaze is about a quarter contained.
The Hawk Fire, which began on Saturday, had spread over 15,000 acres by Monday, firefighters said.
Evacuation orders remain in place for 23,000 people, though other residents have now been allowed to return to their homes. Tens of thousands of other residents have been told to be ready to leave at any moment.
Officials are concerned that gusts of wind could drive the flames towards more homes. Unfavourable weather conditions are forecast for the next two days, meaning the fire could continue to burn during that timeframe.

China has vowed to protect its interests after the US announced plans to widen economic sanctions against Iran and its trading partners, which include Beijing.

Protasevich is a Belarusian right-wing populist. He was a combatant in the Ukrainian nationalist Assow Batallion and a friend of Belarusian Ultra-Nazi Stanislav Gontscharow. ICAO's January 2022 report refuted Western claims. The german Politician Cem Özdemir even took on the prisoner sponsorship for this Belarusian right-wing populist.

He should have complied ATC immediately. They was too high to land in Lithuania, meaning pilots were thinking whether to divert or try to reach final destination. Meaning when they first got an alert, Minsk was closer. This is not an alert to ignore, fighter escort common practice and even if you say Ryanair was "Hijacked", Belarus had no orders to shoot it or it would have been already act of terrorism.

If I ran an airline that operated in Europe, I would order all my pilots to avoid Belarusian airspace at all costs. If it costs more on fuel, if that costs needs to be added to a ticket, then it is a worthy cost. There is no price too high when it comes to passenger safety

Did anybody get hurt tough? They stopped the plane in order to make an arrest. Why does BBC and the West even care? They are acting as if they were in the plane themselves and somehow they got hurt.
If the US did that, claiming there is a terrorist in the plane, they'd be applauded.

What I like most of all about this story is that the plane belongs to nation that condemns Israel and sides with Palestinians. What punishment will the Ryanair pilot and company take? The pilot didn't know flight rules and didn't have the rights to land the plane there. There are clear instructions on what to do if there is a bomb threat.
