Don't know how I lived without this for so long! I make dog food for 2 of our dogs https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg (we have 5!) and it is so much quicker in this. Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

They used to use greens “peas” in the rice they were small round green beans but they looked like peas but there beans it’s an old school
Ingredient you don’t see it much these days anymore you see more kidney beans but you may be able to find them in Chinese markets in cans

Do not know how I missed this one. I’m a good Irish Canadian with Jamaican roots who grew up with rice and peas as a main staple of Sunday roasts. On my long dead grandma’s grave I’d give the rice and peas a go. Jerk chicken was never a think in my child hood but I do like the idea of letting the drippings of the chicken drop into the rice. Curried goat, ox tail, stew fish or good old roast pork with Carl’s to sop up the dregs is the way to go.

Love you guys, but respectfully we say rice and peas, of course it would make sense to say beans – as in the use of kidney beans, but colloquially we say ‘peas’………go figure. Lol. Thankyou for representing 🙏🏾👊🏾

That is NOT jerk chicken. That is NOT rice and peas. That is however roasted chicken and rice and beans.

A knob of butter is the single biggest British cop out ever. It's a culinary sin. The British are terrified of being specific when it comes to butter even though even Ben himself likes to fall back in French recipes which are extremely specific when it comes to butter

Well, my perfect way to cook chicken is: don't. Instead go to Costa Rica, rent a car, drive all the way up close to the border to Nicaragua, find a local restaurant along what they call a highway and I call a rocky 4×4 trail, sit down and order food. Chances are they will serve you chicken with an assortment of incredible sides, chances are you don't speak enough spanish to ask what you're eating, but there is a guarantee that that is the best chicken you had in your life and even if you double the asking price the meal still costs less than a factory farmed chicken in the industrialized world.

Can anyone recommend a good jerk seasoning?? The one I bought was utter crap. There was no flavor! 😥

  24. @annwest4345

    January 21, 2024 at 6:51 am

To add to songlyrics explanation about why it's called rice and peas is also because in the older days rice and peas was made with pigeon peas or a small type of peas that looks a lot like kidney beans but they are not. Now though most Jamaican's use kidney beans to make their rice and peas. Interesting way to make your rice and peas by the way but not very Jamaican, we traditionally don't put chicken stock in our rice and peas, just coconut milk, thyme, onion, garlic, salt and pepper, a nice unbroken scotch bonnet pepper, and a piece of salt pork, last one is optional. Kind of reminds me of how they make it in Trinidad minus the beef.

I always stuff my bird with tart apples ie: Granny Smiths or Honeycrisp (when in season) and rub the outside with lemon pepper and butter. Makes THE BEST roasted chicken EVER!

    January 21, 2024 at 6:51 am

Shoot, do that same stuff in a slow cooker. Marinate and cook the chicken with a bit of stock, make the 3 veggie mix with garlic and cook for 2 hrs, take that chicken out and throw the rice into the pot and cook it. Shred that chicken and mix it up. Delicious

  37. @alskjflah

I purchased Nando's perri perri sauce online to make at home here in the US. I watched this video and both of the Nando's videos from sorted multiple times each. I had my butcher spatchcock the chicken for me and cut slices in the chicken rather than poke holes before marinating overnight. Otherwise I used this method. Dear God what Amazing rice! So creamy and delicious the flavors of the chicken married with the rice and peas so perfectly. I love it all so much. Thank you Sorted.

Hahaha….. nice to see English guys eating this dish and loving it!!! That guy did a wonderful job…. the combination with rice underneath taking up the juices of the chicken is a very good way to fully enjoy all the flavours.
