Saeb Erekat: Key Palestinian negotiator dies of Covid-19 – BBC News
One of the most prominent Palestinian political figures, Saeb Erekat, has died with Covid-19, officials say.
The 65-year-old passed away at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem.
Erekat was secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and an adviser to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Three days of mourning have been declared in the authority for the man who led peace talks with Israel for the past two and a half decades.
Erekat helped negotiate the landmark Oslo Accords in 1993, which created the authority and gave Palestinians limited self-governance in the West Bank and Gaza Strip for the first time since Israel occupied the territories in 1967.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has told the BBC that PC Andrew Harper’s killers will remain behind bars as he announces changes to the early release scheme aimed at easing prison overcrowding.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Breakfast, Burnham said anyone convicted of manslaughter will be excluded from changes brought in under the Sentencing Act, which would have made the killers eligible for early release.
Burnham said extra prison spaces would be created by deporting “hundreds” of foreign prisoners and releasing some inmates serving indefinite sentences.

Twenty-seven people have been killed and almost 400 evacuated after a Russian strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv, triggering a fire and a series of explosions.
Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said a further 42 people, including four children, were injured after the Russian drone strike in the Bucha district.
An investigation has been launched into whether ammunition was being stored at the site, where search and rescue operations were ongoing early on Saturday.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement that its forces had targeted “an ammunition depot” in the Kyiv region village of Myla, which stores “components and launch boosters for FP-1/FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles”.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the strike, saying that more than 300 emergency respondents had been deployed to the strike area.

The other Arabs have always seen the Palestinian Arabs as a bargaining chip, a way to make inroads in a nefarious plot to get rid of Israel, this is how Palestinians view themselves, they have fostered their victimhood complex and their status as permanent victims has been set up by them so they can perpetually milk it. Finally, after many decades, the youth of the surrounding Arab nations have lost any interest in the nefarious plotting of their grandparents. They have access to the internet and they realize that Israel is innocent 😇 and the Palestinians themselves purposefully caused their own bad situation for sympathy. The sympathy ran dry, now the entire Arab world has grown tired of the crybabies.
