Ukraine president hails nation’s ‘year of invincibility’ one year after Russia’s invasion – BBC News
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has hailed his nation’s “year of invincibility”, one year after Russia’s invasion.
In a television address, President Zelensky said Ukraine would “do everything to win this year”.
He also took part in a ceremony honouring Ukrainian soldiers and families. Similar ceremonies are taking place in cities and towns across Ukraine.
In the UK, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak led a national minute’s silence in support of Ukraine.
The occasion has not been mentioned on Russian state television.

Iran and the United States have carried out on the biggest exchange of attacks since July, stoking fears of a return to all out war.
Iran said 18 people were killed and more than 100 injured in latest US bombardment. It accused the US of committing a war crime by striking a wedding in the city of Kuhestak, killing four people including two children. The Pentagon responded by saying it does not target civilians.
In retaliation, Iran launched a wave of strikes against American targets in the region, including in Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq and Bahrain.
President Trump is warning that the US is prepared to carry out further strikes in response to those attacks.
There are warnings of a serious impact on the global economy, with further disruption to oil and gas supplies, affecting inflation and global borrowing costs.

In Nepal, a huge wave of mud and debris has left hundreds dead and rescuers racing to find survivors in treacherous conditions.

There are fears of more flash floods in Nepal, as rescuers scramble through villages engulfed in rock and mud in a desperate search for survivors of the flash floods that have left at least 1,400 missing and hundreds dead. It is feared that the final death toll may be much higher.
Survivors have been giving harrowing accounts of how their entire families were wiped away in the catastrophe.
Hundreds of foreign nationals are desperately waiting to hear from loved ones thought to be caught in the disaster. Nepalese authorities say at least 380 people are confirmed to have died.
The region is popular with trekkers from around the world and is a pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists, visited by tens of thousands of pilgrims each year.
Travellers from at least 28 countries, are among those missing following the catastrophe. The Nepalese authorities says among those missing are citizens of India, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Japan, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, South Africa and Israel.
Tens of thousands of tourists make their way through Nepal annually. The disaster struck at the time of the year when people, especially Indian tourists, visit the area.
State media in China, which controls Tibet, reported three dead and at least 558 missing there. Among these are 260 foreign nationals. It is not clear if these figures overlap with the numbers provided by Nepal.
It appears that collapse of mountain glaciers triggered the disaster and there are fears of an imminent risk of further flash flooding without warning. Climate change is known to be driving faster glacier melt in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region, but scientists say it is too soon to pinpoint its role in this specific event.

More than 600 people have died following Wednesday’s devastating flash flood in Nepal.
At least 2,426 people are missing, Nepal’s disaster management authority says, as rescue operations continue for a fourth day.
Families of the missing – including at least 517 foreign nationals – are waiting for news on the whereabouts of their loved ones.
Emergency teams are warning that rain is making it difficult to reach some of the worst-affected areas.

Let's be honest! If for instance the President of Ukraine had heed the advise not to join NATO which is the deadly and 'cut-throat' enemy to Russia given the cold war history, will this devastating war had happened? Check your history the same thing happended in Africa when in Rwanda in 1994 an anti- government at that time downed the Plane that was carrying the Rwandan President Major General Juvenal Habyarimana and his Burundi's counterpart President Ntadyamira and the outcome was brutal killings of millions of innocent Tutsis in Rwanda and Hutus hunted in then Zaire now DRC by the victorious RPF fighters supported by the West as it is the case with war in Ukraine today although at different scale. Why don't you learn from these crazy war strategies which cannot bring peace to any one? Think of Rwanda today 29 years down since RPF took power, you believe the country is secured from another civil war? I beg to differ because in Rwanda you have to be a Tutsi (actually not every Tutsi) but those who repatriated from Uganda and speak English, and not from Tanzania or Burundi! In 50 years to come if nothing is done to forgive each other and build an inclusive Rwanda, Hutus will definitely fight back. Rwanda is a beautiful country make it a peaceful one for all Rwandese, Hutus, Tutsis and the Batwa. And mind you, when I give this advise, I am not referring to H.E Major Gen. Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda, no! H.E had done his job already and he want be there 50 year to come! God doesn't like the way you are treating each other.
