We need a men's and a women's health strategy. Both are important. Men's suicide rates are a concern and we need to address this and any other health concerns. It is not a question of either/or but both.

Theres a simple reason why this will never happen and it comes down to how the human animal evolved. We spent most of our history living in a resource scarce environment. Women are worth more than men as they can give birth. They get priority protection because if a war or disease comes along and theres not enough women to reproduce we would be finished. Men can be sacrificed in such an environment. The evolutionary programming has changed very little in thousands of years but it still exisits in the modern world and since resource aquisition is a zero sum game for women (evolutionarily this makes perfect sense) they always, along with males who are programmed to be sacrificed for the greater good, will reluctantly give resources to men even in an age of abundance. For this reason alone men must be cognisant of their own mental health, because, by natures own design, no one, both women and men, give a sh!t.

Our health is generally limited by the (currently abysmal) health of the nation: housing, wages, cost of living, time working vs not working. If you want people to be healthy it's no good treating symptoms when the causes remain avoided. You fix those things first and I'll bet you find men (and women) have less reason to drink, do drugs, eat poorly, sleep poorly, and be far less stressed out.

We can beat around the bush all day. Life expectancy will come down and health issues increase so long as we continue to live like this.

No, what we need is for men to stop sitting on their lard arses watching football drinking cans of lager, and exercise more and eat properly. We don't need more govt interference in our lives and taxpayers money being wasted.
