Published

on

‘This cost-of-living crisis would be a lot less challenging if we were living in houses that only cost a tenth of what they currently do to heat.’

So you have outsourced our manufacturers to major foreign polluters, with zero intent on any green ideals, instead of cleaning up our own inhouse production.
Then you want to reduce our energy consumption to ensure any economy we have remaining is killed off and replaced with the worst polluters goods ?
    Slow clap. Outstanding.
When the UK is a 3rd world basket case, with the cost of liiving beyond the reach of most people, no doubt you will clap yourself on the back.

It's got nothing to do with climate and everything to do with keeping the trough filled with "green" money for MPs snouts.

Yeah you are going to save money by being forced to spend literally £1000s on heat pumps (who some say don't work very well). Get sick of listening to these lunatics, make the energy cheaper and environmentally friendly at source at the existing power station structures then its job done. Accept for the fact China and India will still be pumping out the CO2 and has no intention of slowing down, let alone stopping.

We have the technology to have 100% renewable energy sources. However, having a corrupt govt. kow-towing to oil and gas giants, plus their incompetence and Brexit destroying our economy, they don't have the funds, nor the will, to help households insulate and install appropriate measures. If this govt were a cartoon character, they'd be Mr. Magoo – so short-sighted. Just wait until climate refugees arrive in their millions on our shores!

I won't save money over time with insulation as I don't use heating! My home won't be any greener and save Co2 emissions, it will create more due to using materials and builders to insulate it! This ones size fits all policy is a joke. Perhaps they should start with the cheapest most cost-effective solution, which is generally loft insulation, in every single viable home, before asking people to rip up their floor-boards, and spend 5-10 grand on floor insulation, making the home unliveable in for several weeks!

  30. @purplehaze8557

    January 10, 2024 at 8:40 pm

Tyranny is never justified as an end in itself, but rather as a means to achieve a higher goal: better climate, the public good, the future, the children, this or that emergency. That's what this bloke and many like him are subreptitiously doing.

  31. @celeste6536

    January 10, 2024 at 8:40 pm

Plenty of government grants for Retrofits, although it's the tax payers money.
You can insulate & Retrofit current properties including social housing which may mean moving home & adding a service charge. That's if you will be allowed return to your home.
Even with all the insulation, affording the extra £250 a month to run those air source heat pumps & having them on 24/7 is not a viable, cost effective & not even close to net zero!

  32. @Aspartame69

    January 10, 2024 at 8:40 pm

Interesting. The biggest opponents to carbon sequestration are the climate activists. Its almost as though the activists dont care about the environment and are actually more interested in destroying capitalism and western civilisation.

  37. @iareid8255

It is very easy to say if houses were a lot better insulated it would be much cheaper to heat.
The reality is the U.K. has a lot of older houses that are not easy to significantly improve their insulation levels, many will have had most of the relatively affordable work done. The next level is very expensive.
A builder friend of mine has a house which he believes will be cheaper to knock down and rebuild to current standards rather than improve the insulation. One factor is that materials for rebuild are VAT free but incur 20% VAT for renovation. Hardly an incentive?
That said the current energy costs are due to poor government energy policy for a couple of decades. In other words if energy were much cheaper the problem would be less bearing in mind that much of the heating is only really required for a few weeks of the year.
