Ukrainian and Russian soldiers fighting in streets of Bakhmut – BBC News
Ukrainian and Russian soldiers are fighting on the streets of Bakhmut, but the city hasn’t been taken by Russia just yet according to the city’s deputy mayor, Oleksandr Marchenko.
He told the BBC that the city is almost destroyed, with not a single building untouched as a result of the conflict.
Russian troops – from Wagner and regular Russian forces – are believed to have the city surrounded, but thousands of its troops are reported to have died during the offensive.

Today, an undercover BBC investigation has found evidence of law firms and legal advisors helping migrants pretend to be gay to get asylum.
Migrants were advised to take staged photos at nightclubs, attend LGBT events and to go to GPs pretending to be depressed to obtain medical evidence to support their cases.
Adam and Chris are joined by BBC politics investigation correspondent Billy Kenber, who uncovered the story. In response to our findings, the Home Office said: “Anyone found trying to exploit the system will face the full force of the law, including removal from the UK.”

Hungary has seen a historic election result. After 16 years in power, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been ousted from the role.
Péter Magyar’s Tisza party won a comfortable “super majority” with two-thirds of the seats in parliament, meaning the party will be able to change the constitution.
The defeat will mean a huge reset of Hungary’s relationships with the rest of the world.
Orbán has been a close partner of both US President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and he had become a big thorn in the side of the EU and Ukraine.
The BBC’s Europe Editor Katya Adler was in Budapest as the election unfolded, and takes you with her in this video as a historic defeat takes place.

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

US President Donald Trump said US-Iran talks could restart in Pakistan “in the next two days”, though Iran is yet to comment.

Twenty years ago, the United States claimed that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and chemical weapons. The United States prepared 150,000 troops from the US army and 40,000 troops from the British army, and the US president declared the beginning of the war on Iraq. When are the Russians going to realise they have already lost….there is no way they can have a winning outcome from the war they started on Ukraine…If they lose the war, they lose the future of Russia for the next several generations, if they win the war they still lose the future of Russia for the next several generations…best thing the Russians can do is overthrow Putin, give up all his regime and the propagandists to the West for trial and claim they were led into the conflict by a madman that they were all scared of and ask for forgiveness and help rebuilding Russia into a civilised, real democracy…that's their best outcome from all of this..!!

If Russia wins, it means that they beat NATO. I wonder if the man speaking here knows anything about Ukranian losses. It should be self evident that he does, I can hear people say, but it's not. People hear what they want to hear and disregards the rest. That's central for every propagandist when they create a narrative that flatter their target groups. According to Pentagon, Ukraine has 122 thousand KIA's. 36 thousands missed in action and over 300 thousand wounded. Ursula von der Leyen's tongue slipped in her speech before the EU congress, but she took it back the day after. That Pentagon then had published these numbers made it only worse. My question is if West is supporting Ukraine or helping to destroying them. The figures given by the US army is more than a month ago, so many more have died. The ambassador speaks about Russians dying in Bakhmut. Yes, sure they die! Only not in the numbers hinted at by him. If you let the artillery and air force do the job for you, your numbers of dead will be lower. It's logic. No one controls internet fully yet. The shorts individual troops upload are the best source. They tell it as it is. The Ukranians are running out of ammunition and the only way into Bakhmut is within the range of Russian artillery. America has pressed Zelensky to get his men and machines out, but he has refused so far. Now it's hard to see exactly how they will be able to take their weapons out.
