Venezuela growing economic crisis – BBC News
Venezuela has some of the largest known reserves of oil in the world – yet its economy is in an ongoing crisis. There are widespread shortages of basic goods, rising levels of crime – and growing political violence. The government of President Nicolas Maduro is blaming the influence of the United States – which has been highly critical of Mr Maduro’s leadership.

Thirty US states are suing Meta for over $1 trillion, accusing it of knowingly designing Instagram and Facebook to be addictive and harmful to children, while concealing what it knew.
If they win, it could force Meta to overhaul the platforms for good, ending features like “like” counts, infinite scroll and autoplay video.

At least 224 people are dead and a state of emergency has been declared after Colombia was hit by one of its largest earthquakes in years.
The death toll is likely to rise, with more feared trapped under collapsed buildings.
The magnitude 7.4 quake struck at 07:34 (12:34 GMT) at a depth of 103km (64 miles) in Chocó province, the country’s geological service said. It was felt across an enormous area, stretching for hundreds of miles across western Colombia.
Many of the deaths have been concentrated in Cali, Colombia’s third most populous city.

A man has died and thousands of people have been told to evacuate their homes amid torrential rain and flash flooding in Australia’s largest city, Sydney.
Roads have been cut off, with 18 evacuation orders in western Sydney alone and warnings of more to come.
“This is a life-threatening emergency situation,” Stephanie Cooke, emergency services minister for the state of New South Wales, said.
