The former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that current tension between Russia and the West is putting the world in “colossal danger” due to the threat from nuclear weapons.
In an interview with the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg, former President Gorbachev called for all countries to declare that nuclear weapons should be destroyed.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

The Marked One may have been seen as a failure to some Soviet leaders. To his own people and the western nations, he was a true Hero of the People.

Горбачев для меня(родился еще в СССР и живущего в РФ) является неоднозначным человеком. Нет, наверное больше негативное к нему отношение, но Ельцин переплюнул Горбачева. Есть 2 лагеря людей. 1. Лагерь был За перестройку. 2. разумеется Против. Однако оба лагеря сходятся чаще всего в одном: Горбачев виноват в разрушении. Лагерь который был За перестройку радовались не долго. Коммунисты не умели в капитализм и резкое введение капитализма обрушил рынок. Какой смысл от вариантов товара(разных производителей), если товара этого самого почти и не было. Взять продуктовые магазины 90-х. Появились новые фирмы производителей той или иной продукции, но самой продукции почти не было. Полки магазинов пустели. Лагерь который был против перестройки и обвиняют в этой перестройке, а еще и в уничтожении СССР. Однако Горбачев хоть и запустил бомбу замедленного действия(уничтожение всего), но он +- смог остановить холодную войну. Однако тут тоже всё спорно. Нам и вовсе на словах обещали как-то то, что НАТО не будет расширяться на восток. Слова – это слова. С запада надо требовать бумаги с подписями и печатями, а еще самое главное хорошо прописаны, без намеков на обход этой самой бумажки. Ельцин и вовсе пошел вести странную политику. В капитализме не понимали еще и делали тупые шаги. Чуть вовсе не уничтожили всё свое производство, включая и страну. Россия в 90-х чудом выжила. Ельцин был хорош только в 1… умел всем настроение поднять пока он был пьян. Хотя тут хорошего малого… Горе в семье когда отец алкоголик, а тут целый президент… Мне плевать сколько лет Путин. Однако именно как лидер он лучшее что случалось с моей страной за долгие годы, включая Советские времена. Путин сохранил остатки России после 90-х и создал очень крепкую страну. Мой президент – это Путин. Мне плевать на весь запад и его двойными стандартами. Хочет запад войны? Думаю нет, но делает всё для накала. Холодная война закончиться – это вопрос времени. Но как она закончиться? С переходом в горячую войну или запад засунет свои двойные стандарты себе в зад и начнет идти на нормализацию отношений? Спросите что за двойные стандарты? Да самые обычные… "ЭТО ДРУГОЕ". Когда НАТО начали бомбить Югославию без разрешения ООН. Согласие дали немного уже позднее. А бомбы уже полетели. А ради чего? Ради 45 человек? Причем и сегодня не ясно кем именно были убиты эти 45 человек. Или тут что-то другое? Смена власти сговорчивая с США? История США очень мала, но очень яркая на события. Событий обычно 2. Устроить где-то революцию или и вовсе ввести войска. Это уж точно не США говорить что-то про Россию. Когда сам ты не то, что по локоть в крови, а прямо с головой занырнул туда, то говорить то, что кто-то другой очень страшный так себе. Россия – это древняя страна. Да, были разные названия, но история и корни остались. Однако за всю история мы очень часто именно оборонялись, а не нападали. США за маленькую свою историю где только не воевали. А если не воевали, то устраивали революцию(свергали правителя и приходил уже кто-то сговорчивый с США). Странная история Панамы. США нужно было сократить плавание с запада страны на восток. Хотели выкупить землю для строительства канала. Я сейчас уже точно забыл историю, но вроде Колумбия называлась тогда. США у Колумбии и хотела выкупить в Панаме земли. Но тут как-то не точная информация. Вроде всё ок было, Колумбия по версии почесала голову и отказала США. Точнее правитель(кто там уже тогда правил точно не помню… да, забываю историю, а искать информацию по новой уже не захотел). Однако версия такова: Этот самый правитель толи Колумбии спросил даже у народа о сделке с США, но вроде решил народ то, что как-то не очень это и отказали США. Другая версия – там был диктатор и он всё запрещал и решал за всех сам. Однако я не поверю в 1 точно. То, что США не вмешивались в страну и всё произошло само. США – это революции и войны всюду. Кстати, Украина – это так же их дело. Кстати, а что там по БМ который юр. силы не имеет? США и нарушили этот самый БМ и с 2 странами точно, Украина и Беларусь. Запад включая США не просто поддержал майдан 2014, но и финансировал его. Значит запад нарушил "политическую независимость" в БМ по Украине. А потом когда захотели свергнуть Лукашенко, но не прокатило, то ввели санкции на Беларусь. А это экономическое принуждение. Но БМ не ратифицировали и он просто меморандум. Это еще раз показывает то, что с западом надо заключать именно полноценные соглашения. Не Россия нарушила БМ. Ладно, Россия можно сказать тоже нарушила, но после запада. Если запад говорит нам то, что в отношении Беларуси санкции не нарушают БМ т.к он не ратифицирован, то предъявлять БМ к России нет смысла. А значит я беру слова обратно, Россия не нарушала БМ. Не ратифицировали да и не прописали нормально БМ. Ничего четкого про нарушение не сказано.

didn't agree wholly with this man, especially his ideology and what he ultimately did with Russia, but he was a better leader than Lenin ever was, and a man more dedicated to freedom, even if his idea of freedom was misguided. hope Gorbachev is resting well in his death.
