Russian mum’s fight to save sons from President Putin’s war in Ukraine – BBC News

Published

on

Ukraine’s government has said fighting in the eastern Donbas region has reached a new intensity.

Russia is attacking more than 40 towns and storming Ukrainian positions in several areas.

Among the Russian forces who’ve been fighting are two brothers. Their mother claims they were conscripted, despite President Vladimir Putin’s assurance that only professional soldiers had been deployed.

The Russian defence ministry has now admitted that conscripts were among military personnel involved in the Russian offensive in Ukraine.

They claimed that “virtually all such servicemen have now been returned to Russia”.

They showed a video from a Ukrainian drone 2 Russian tank drivers panic when getting ambushed, a few Russians fall off from the top of the tank, now they weren't hit, they just fell off cause one of the tanks slammed in the one infront of it and when one of the soldiers fell off, the tank driver ran over 2.of his men.

Russia is a violent nation with a violent President, whose citizenry have tacitly supported this genocidal, murderous, rampage against its neighbor. Even this woman seemed to be unaffected by Russia's atrocities against its neighbor, until she learned that her sons were sent there! The biggest waves of protest in Russia now, have nothing to do with its government’s atrocities in Ukraine but with the fact that they, the citizens, can no longer sit on the sidelines and shrug their shoulders saying “I don't care" or "I’m not interested” while waving Z symbols etc. from the comforts of their homes. Suddenly, they are being forced to take part in this genocidal, murderous, rampage in Ukraine and lo and behold, they are now against it and are outraged? I think the consciousness in Russia is so low and abhorrent, that they are a long way off from any sort of societal awakening…. J Hanc

Putin does not consider the death of 50,000 of his troops as "anything" or the loss of arms & legs of another 10,000 of his troops as "anything". No problem. He has more. They are just ants on the ground.

Meta to pay up to $18bn to settle claims its platforms harm children | BBC News

Published

on

Social media giant Meta has agreed to a $18bn (£13.3bn) settlement with US states and territories to resolve claims that Facebook and Instagram harmed children.

A California judge approved the settlement, which Meta must pay to 48 states, plus the District of Columbia and three US territories, marking the company’s largest payment over child safety litigation to date.

Meta will also implement a host of changes aimed at better protecting kids online, which the states had demanded, including default daily time limits and night-time blocks.

Meta has denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement and said on Wednesday that the payment it agreed to “will be distributed in annual instalments over a 10-year period”.

PC Andrew Harper’s killers to stay in jail | BBC News Exclusive

Published

on

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has told the BBC that PC Andrew Harper’s killers will remain behind bars as he announces changes to the early release scheme aimed at easing prison overcrowding.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Breakfast, Burnham said anyone convicted of manslaughter will be excluded from changes brought in under the Sentencing Act, which would have made the killers eligible for early release.

Burnham said extra prison spaces would be created by deporting “hundreds” of foreign prisoners and releasing some inmates serving indefinite sentences.

At least 27 dead and hundreds evacuated after strike on Kyiv warehouse | BBC News

Published

on

Twenty-seven people have been killed and almost 400 evacuated after a Russian strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv, triggering a fire and a series of explosions.

Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said a further 42 people, including four children, were injured after the Russian drone strike in the Bucha district.

An investigation has been launched into whether ammunition was being stored at the site, where search and rescue operations were ongoing early on Saturday.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement that its forces had targeted “an ammunition depot” in the Kyiv region village of Myla, which stores “components and launch boosters for FP-1/FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles”.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the strike, saying that more than 300 emergency respondents had been deployed to the strike area.
