I feel like it’s bad to compare jar sauces, because obviously the taste profile will be different, cheaper jar sauces will use cheaper tomatoes and therefore have to substitute the more acidic tomatoes with more sugar and therefore making it “taste better”, i feel like it’s better to compare just the tomatoes, which should be canned because you’ll get the freshest tomatoes and then you can keep all other variables like sugar and seasonings the same. If you use a cheaper can compared to the best of the best, a can of San Marzano tomatoes, which will absolutely give a world of difference between the two because they’ll be much more naturally sweet and less acidic compared to the cheaper stuff, which when you get, you should add in additional sweetness from sugar to make the flavour profile better compared to the more “premium” where you won’t likely need any additional sweetness and is perfect on it’s own on pizza or around pasta

When is Mike ever going to be able to spent £40 per portion on protein. Well not on this 50+% fat piece of meat!! Fat is not protein. And didn’t I hear his suggestion the he was too good at identifying quality to be a “normal”?
@michaelratcliffe7559
January 7, 2024 at 12:41 am
Fat does not – NOT – deliver flavour. Fat delivers a texture – lumpy/hard or creamy/smooth – greasy or velvety – but absolutely FAT DOES NOT DELIVER FLAVOUR! I don’t care how charming you guys are – please try to be accurate.

These videos help everyone. We all stand and look at the top and bottom end of so many products. I’m a keto girl and the ingredients mean more to me than price (make my own mostly) but I do the same thing as I am looking for food. Love you guys and thank you once again.

Such an interesting conversation surrounding these premium products. Jam? Probably wouldn’t lash out. Wagyu? Wouldn’t buy it as I’m not a beef guy (yet I’ve had A5 before and predictably didn’t appreciate it). However when it comes to seafood I definitely appreciate things like Alaskan king crab and Sevruga caviar and will pay for them for celebratory occasions and appreciate them. It truly comes down to whether or not you see value in any product. Just like Jamie is a premium product 😉

I don’t know if you can get Rao’s tomato sauce in the UK (I’m a Canadian ex-pat living in the Turks and Caicos and we get it here as well widely in North America) but also as as a chef in my previous life, I’ve just been exposed to Rao’s Arrabbiata sauce since being here and honestly, even though I can easily make it, I pay USD$18 a jar here for it because it’s f*cking perfect. It’s a flawless Arrabbiata sauce in my opinion and I wouldn’t even try to make it myself because the ingredients here are also very expensive. I’d love to see what you boys think of Rao’s Arrabbiata because in my opinion it’s one of those rare commercial products that are just outstanding. If you can get it, I’d love to see you boys review it!

Japanese waygu beef. Factory farmed cattle that never get to see a meadow. Fed on mostly grains which increases the fat production. That and airmiles. £200/kg is a complete con. I'd prefer the British grass-fed cattle any day of the week.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone. Barilla told us that we shouldn't by their stuff if we didn't like the fact that they only support same sex Marriages and that homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to adopt children. I feel it's important to keep reminding people of that whenever I see someone buying their products. Just in case you believe they are wrong and you don't want to support homofobes. Thanks for your time, bye

Everytime I see Wagyu, I am more convinced that I would not like it.
I am someone who picks off the the fat from my meat, along with veins/arteries or what ever those streaks are in the meat.
I just eat the very lean portions.
I don't like the flavor and it is an instead gag respone from me when ever I accidentally get fat in my mouth (such as when eating tacos and I happen to miss a fatty bit)
Knowing that this very "high quality" meat is mostly fat is such a turn off for me.
I'll try it one day but I'm not too quick on giving up ~200$ for something I may not like.

Wow. This was two years ago and they were already talking about "lockdown" as if it were in the past, unaware that it was going to come wave after wave until our brains got ground into paste by thousands of separate pandemics until they all blended into a titanic monolith of non-specific feelings of grief and social insecurity

Funnily enough, most Western people I’ve taken to A3 – A5 wagyu here in Japan, did not like it. At those levels the steak gets almost jelly like from all the fat. Normal marbled wagyu is also my clear favorite. You still get the amazing melting fat, but there’s enough substance to the meat. And you only pay 6 – 9 GBP per portion – clear win!
@TorIverWilhelmsen

Japan has the death penalty. One of the crimes that carries the penalty is having a wagyu meal and saying "this needs some ketchup".

Vanilla: Buy the premium if you're making a vanilla cake but seems like a waste if you're using it in a chocolate cake. Or maybe using vanilla beans instead, depending on price.
Bread: Definitely not everyday break but worth the infrequent buy.
Pasta sauce/ Strawberry Jam: Agree with Jamie here, buy the cheap one or make my own. No need for the expensive premade one
@BeboRulz
January 7, 2024 at 12:41 am
The Waygu doesn't look like a 5. Did you mean that it's graded by the A5 system?? The amount of marbling that steak had looked like a 12. You can barely see any meat & the less meat the higher the score.
I know y'all know this 😉 just confused by the visual of the Waygu.
Also if you read this, watch Hanwoo Rhapsody on Netflix. First episode shows the history, process, and reverence of Waygu cows.
