US election 2024: Joe Biden says stopping Donald Trump is motivation to run | BBC News
US President Joe Biden has said part of his motivation to run for a second term next year is to prevent the return of Donald Trump.
“We cannot let him win,” Mr Biden told reporters.
At a Fox News event, Mr Trump said that he thought Mr Biden was too old for such a political rematch.
Mr Trump is the runaway front-runner in the Republican race even as he faces four criminal cases. Mr Biden, as the incumbent president, is the presumptive Democratic nominee.
But neither candidate is yet the official nominee of their respective party.

The Trump Georgia trial will presumably be a carefully orchestrated show trial, if it isn’t and the defence can freely show evidence then it will be proven it was rigged and fraudulent. There will be witnesses to widespread fraud, judges changing election rules which can only be done by state legislatures and in many counties Trump winning until mysteriously late surges in mail in ballots almost 100% for Biden and just enough to win.

He’s been forced into a corner where he has to try absolutely everything possible to ensure it doesn’t end in the way they want it to. They said it themselves: ‘all or nothing’. All for who? Nothing for who? Something that should have taken a couple of weeks (not several years) shouldn’t need to come to such a decision. You have to ask yourself why these people are relinquishing themselves of any responsibility for his fate if it was supposed to be a nice fate?
They were not expecting this saga to be played out in the public arena. So they have to wash their hands of it all now. They were not expecting to be exposed so openly and cannot accept being left in a position of utter humiliation.
They’ve ran out of words to label him (having already over used: toxic, nasty, hate and dangerous). The latest one they’ve come up with is ‘rude’, simply for having natural desires to win an election. And ‘close minded’, simply because he doesn’t agree with their very narrow perspective (how ironic that these people, of all people, have come up with that one!).
These people obviously underestimated him as he is still standing years longer they had envisaged. One thing is for certain, he is prepared for the fight of his life, given that this thing will go right until the early hours of election night and he can only hope and pray that he will be the one standing at the end of it.
