My teen and I made the "budget" Welly, we upgraded with presciuttio and proper herbs, some cognac and some other little bits. The meal was very VERRY good.

I'd love to see a "Technically Free" budget battle, where Ben gets to use his allotment, store cupboard ingredients, and leftovers from the teams lunch as his budget.

Heck, bring in Kush as the £10 budget and then have a threeway battle and see who comes out on top.

How about a 25 pound per person vs unlimited budget.

  5. @itarry4

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

Why do you put £2.50 in the title when there's no chance that's actually what you spent and I believe you actually mean £2.50 a portion with Ben cooking for 4. I mean at £2.50 a portion doing what Ben does is way, way impressive as it is so the slightly click bait, stretching the truth title is totally unnecessary. I mean if he is using £2.50 ingredients then please, please tell me where he's, shopping especially as I believe you're based in London.

Nowadays with 2.50£ (4.25$ CAN) in Quebec province, you can barely afford the mushrooms. I'm not even joking…

I would eat that sausage roll.

  8. @Kilorelv

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I think Mike should have won. It wasn't a battle of taste per cost it was a battle of which is better. Yall said Mike's was better, but not 11x better, which isn't what the challenge was.

  9. @maeve4686

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

What an education! I always thought that Beff Welly was just a roast cooked in a crust…amazing dish! WELL DONE…except Mike's, which looked perfect!

I wonder if I can make one using a top round roast. If I catch them on sale I can afford one. I always have the staple ingredients for crepes in the house so that's not a problem either.

  12. @SteamTitan

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

THis really intrigues me. I've always wanted to make a wellington but my mom willnot eat meat that is red at all in it and a wellington is very red. maybe by doing the ground beef idea with normal wellingtons ingridients would work

  13. @patriciahughes5592

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

    I'd vote for Ben's

The judging of this challenge is so weird as the concept is can mike overcome his skills deficit with money to make a better dish. Whilst when judging the cost is brought back into the discussion against him whilst ebbers skill advantage isn’t used against him

  21. @ethancampbell215

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

Where is Mike finding beef stock that costs £12.50!! 😂😂 As an ever so normal home cook a beef oxo cube does the job I could never imagine spending the same amount for beef stock as I would the majority of the components to the centrepiece of a dish 😂😂

  22. @teagenthetiefling5296

If I’d had this thought when the series was still active I think it would have made an interesting twist on the series. Instead of restricting the chef to a particular budget but not restricting the normal i think putting some form of limitation on both would test the normals more but allowing the chef to get somewhat closer to the normal. If a range of different budgets for the chef to pick from at random, perhaps between £10 and £25, and a range of budgets picked at random for the normal, maybe between £75 and £100, would test both their planning and shopping but also giving the potential for the budgets to be closer or further away because Ebbers having to compete against someone who can go ridiculous makes it unfairly challenging

  25. @LadyGigglesnort

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

OK, £110 is a large sum to pay for ingredients. However, it is for four people and I am guessing if you went to one of Ramsey's restaurants, it wouldn't be much cheaper?

  26. @nursultantulyakbaycats

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

mike actually does a good job when he's not under pressure. I think he's due for an intermediate badge

Can the chef restock a full kitchen everything from salt pepper basic seasonings to meats and cheeses cupboards fridges and freezers that would be handy xx

  28. @janicerivett6547

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

My father and I believe Ebbers could cook an old shoe and it would be delicious.

  29. @LILEE376

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I have never had a Beef Wellington, so I wonder, what would be the sweet spot recipe, wich is not ultra budget but also not extremely spicy. What would be a fairly affordable dish of it?

  30. @siouxsqueakpickle3272

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

From a texture perspective, ground beef is not an acceptable substitute for a whole cut. Maybe you could mask the flavor of well done beef with herby sausage, but you can't hide the mouthfeel. I have come to terms with hamburgers, but can't get past that point with something like meatloaf. I found Ben's offering revolting, alas. 😢

  31. @dbomber69

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

Take the bullion and rub it all over the filet before cooking.

  32. @dacookiemasta

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I think Ben said it best, it's two ends of the scale with what you can do with a little or a lot of money

  33. @kennethjoslin7025

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I have to say, kind of want to try Ebbers version of a budget Beef Wellington. Congrats to both.

Every time I watch this show, my mouth waters and I get s-o-o hungry!

  35. @Branwhin

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

Oh my goodness I LOVE a beef Wellington! Both of those look amazing. I'd definitely be using Ebbers' recipe though, lol. There is a shop hereabouts that makes a decent Wellie for a nice treat now and again, but though the Filet looks incredible and I bet the jus was to die for, it's a bit rich for my usual budget, shall we say.

I prefer to see someone show me how to make expensive foods inexpensively rather than see someone make a recipe with items I could never afford

  39. @chrisgrilley558

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I am american and have only heard of beef wellington on TV and movies. Watching Ben make the dish with such simple ingredients, makes me want to try and make it. I am primarily a baker by hobby, but Ben's dish seems easy enough for even a novice like me to try and replicate it. I think you guys should check out another food chanel called bdylanhollis, he does a bunch of eclectic old dishes.

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

Can you make a Wellington without Duxelles please? Can you put something else instead of the Duxelles for people who can't eat mushrooms or don't like them

  41. @moondream6

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I can't have pork myself, but I love the whole thing that Ben created here. I think I'd love to make something like this without the pork products. 🙂 I'm excited to try it.

watched this episode like 10 times…did Ben add mustard to the outside of his sausage??

  43. @sheilanc1

    January 4, 2024 at 9:24 am

I am with you Ben I grow all my herbs you should be able to use them. I also grow micro greens in the winter as I live a hour from any grocery store around. Well done.
