Coronavirus: Whitty and Vallance faced ‘herd immunity’ backlash, emails show – BBC News

Published

on

As the UK introduces fresh restrictions on social contact to curb the spread of coronavirus, controversy continues to rage about whether the government had initially considered trying a very different approach.

At the start of the pandemic, the government’s chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, spoke about “herd immunity” – the idea that once enough of a population had been exposed to the virus, they would build up natural immunity to it.

Sir Patrick and the government have both insisted this was never official policy. The government also denies there was any delay in locking down the country, as some critics have suggested.

Emails obtained by the BBC reveal the alarm among the government’s top scientific advisers at the reaction to Sir Patrick’s words.

In one email from March, Sir Patrick asks for help to “calm down” academics who have expressed anger at his repeated references to herd immunity and the delays in announcing a lockdown.

It seems that the Omnicron-virus is the best immune-booster people can get. I hope the Omnicron-virus ends the CoV-crisis.

There is much information available online about the epidemics of 1957 and 1968; I remember both. No media hysteria, muzzle wearing, distancing , TV brainwashing, or creative statistics. Wake up! Reclaim your freedom. Live again!

Done with the BBC. Don’t care if they try and claw things back and act like they have an ounce journalistic integrity.

Yes, Herd Immunity? A stampede of cows is seen running towards a cliff where they will ultimately die. Of the thousands of cows, one of the cows looks at another cow that's also on the run and asks, "Hey buddy, why are you running?" And that's when the other cow answers, "I don't know. I'm running because that other cow is running". WTF? People please…..wake up!

Whitty and Valance are vaccine salesmen! The fear narrative is still being pushed despite the death to cases ratio at an all time low. We only have cases because the PCR test is so wildly inaccurate! Unbelievably 90+ tests are false positives!

these 2 are corrupt liars, has the BBC reported on how Vallance has £600,000 worth of shares in GSK, the company contracted to produce the covid vaccine? they are both along with hancock deliberately trying to spread fear to the British people with totally bogus stats.

Great strategy Boris, make everyone destitute so they cannot afford to go to the Trafalgar Square protest. Destroy the lives of as many as you can so even less can afford to protest. BBC news at 17.00 and no coverage yet masses of coverage for the destruction of statues and black lives matter protests. BBC even covered a small number of anti lockdown protests in USA and Europe, but none of the protests going on around this country and now the third one in Trafalgar Square. According to the government this Covid scam is the worst crisis to have hit the planet! You would think they would be unbiased and cover all the issues connected with the biggest tragedy the world has ever faced! With a quarter of the UK citizens now on lock down Valence and Whitty standing to make money out of their undeclared connections with the Pharmaceutical Industry one has to ask, are we all living a nightmare and will finally wake up? You could not make up all the corruption and idiotic behaviour within UK government. At least the Evening Standard have loaded a you tube video about the protest today in Trafalgar Square! Thank you Evening Standard and Russia Today for your excellent coverage! No wonder people are cancelling their BBC licence!

Listened to Donald Trump = US Covid deaths = 208,440+

Listened to common sense 3 point plan:

Social distance, wash your hands and wear a mask.

    Taiwan = 7 (x29,777) New Zealand = 25 (x8,338) China = 4,634 (x45)

5G, Tik Tok, & Huawei Security? or US 5 eyes spy network, Facebook under Covid19?

    USA 208,440+ UK 41,936 Canada 9,255
    Australia 870 NZ 25 China 4,634.

Colonisation and Communism are both so last century. Vietnam 35 safer than US.

Do you think you are born again just because you go to a church? Not all churches declare the Truth. On the contrary, your church could be a completely worldly church. For your own soul, you must come out of the churches that use the Bible but do not declare the Truth and speak lies differing from the bible. Hear what the Spirit of Truth says to the churches and receive the eternal gospel!!

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News

Published

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News

Published

on

A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.

Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.

At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.

So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?

AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.
