Can Coronavirus be contained? – BBC News

Published

on

The had infected 74,651 people in China as of 20 February, with 2,120 of them dying.
It seems to start with a fever, followed by a dry cough.

After a week, it leads to shortness of breath and some patients require hospital treatment. Notably, the infection rarely seems to cause a runny nose or sneezing.
The incubation period – between infection and showing any symptoms – lasts up to 14 days, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

But some researchers say it may be as long as 24 days.

And Chinese scientists say some people may be infectious even before symptoms appear.

    Why america will suffer most?
America is the leader of the world and leading the children of Israel and children of Zion to transgress the laws and commandments of God. One their disobedience is rejecting the Law of Moses. American christian leaders are the ones spreading this false teaching worldwide so that you will suffer punishment. As you may know Lord Jesus who is the Savior of the world is also a Judge and uses the Law of Moses which is the righteousness of God to judge and punish the world.

    Psalm 2:12
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

    Jeremiah 6:19
Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people— The fruit of their thoughts, because they have not heeded My words or My Law, but rejected it.

If you want these worldwide catastrophes to stop, all of you need to repent, humble yourselves, and confess all your sins or disobedoence towards the Law of Moses to the Lord Jesus and start obeying the Law of Moses in the name of Lord Jesus so that He can heal the land. But if you continue to deny the truth, this world of sins will be destroyed and only the obedient ones will remain on earth. You can stop coronavirus with medications but who can stop wildfires and earthquakes?

    Daniel 9:13
As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth.

    The Spirit and the bride,
    Gabriel riah

The UK Health Minister, Matt Hancock said there were no plans to restrict flights to
and from Italy. Furthermore, he stated that should people feel ill upon returning to the UK “with symptoms like a sore throat…” that (the returnees) should self quarantine. The Minister has overlooked a key hazardous fact, namely, people could be feeling perfectly well, but could be “silent carriers” of the Corona virus – infecting others as they go about their daily lives, before succumbing to the contagion themselves – possibly over 14 days later! Mr Hancock further implies that since the rest of Europe is seeing an increase in cases, there would be no merit in restricting business and holiday flights in and out of the UK. Mr Hancock fails to grasp the fact that Europe is a continent, while Great Britain is an island in the North Atlantic Ocean! The imposition of travel restrictions to and from this island could delay the virus by several months, wining us valuable time to develop a vaccine. So, are these open- season policies going to result in another “Spanish flu” in the British Isles? Given the unprecedented spread of this virus, I think that question might be answered in the affirmative. And when thousands have died as a direct result of this laissez-faire approach; just as millions died during the “Spanish flu” outbreak, will that old chestnut: “lessons learned” be touted as in 1918 -1919 as the perennial get out of jail card?!

  38. @Msrojo1004

Jennifer, China must contain the virus and have responded correctly. Refer to Dr John Campbell, who is far more expert on this. Hospitals cannot cope with a sharp rise in cases. It is true that eventually nearly everyone could become exposed, but slowing the spread is critical. Hospital services can become overwhelmed. Also, we need to buy time for the development of treatment and vaccines.
Of course it is going to impact our lifestyle for a while!
Please interview Dr John Campbell, a medical expert on Covid 19.

They should have let all people stay where they were at… freeze travel, no more flights, no more crossing borders. That’s how you could have contained it. Just because they look normal and don’t show symptoms doesn’t mean they’re not infected, so meanwhile that person is traveling and spreading it. Should’ve freeze travel for everyone, for everyone’s safety.

  43. @Detmold99

    January 3, 2024 at 1:12 am

I believe these so called experts would have a very different opinion after they see data today about the increased cases in Italy and significant drop of new cases in China. If China didn't ban all travels both domestic and overseas, there could be thousands more cases around world. We should be thankful of China's effort!

Several evidence points out that this covid19 virus escaped from a bio weapon lab in China. And the Chinese government did nothing but arrest the whistleblowers until the epidemic became uncontrollable. In many ways, this was a deliberate negligence of duty. The Chinese government must face international trial and compensate countries that were affected.

Will the new cancer vaccine survive RFK Jr’s America? | BBC News

Published

on

A new personalised vaccine given in combination with a drug has stopped skin cancer returning in patients during a trial, representing a potentially watershed moment in cancer treatment. Scientists used mRNA technology, which was used for some -19 vaccines.

But that technology – and vaccines more generally – have become increasingly controversial in the United States since the -19 pandemic. The Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, is a vaccine sceptic.

In August 2025 cancelled $500m (£376m) in funding for mRNA vaccine research. The move impacted 22 projects being led by major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Moderna, for vaccines against bird flu and other viruses, according to Kennedy’s department.

We speak to Tom Whipple, host of the BBC’s Inside Science programme, about the science of this new vaccine. And we ask how funding cuts for vaccine research could impact health outcomes not just for Americans, but for the world.

Historic first as Chinese robot beats Usain Bolt’s 100m world record at Beijing games | BBC News

Published

on

A Chinese humanoid robot has run 100 metres in 9.39 seconds in a preliminary heat at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing the men’s world record time held by Jamaican sprinting great Usain Bolt.

Tiangong Ultra, developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, won its heat at the opening of the games’ second edition. The robot overtook smartphone maker Honor’s Lightning near the finish after falling behind early in the race. Lightning finished in 9.47 seconds, also faster than the 9.58-second record Bolt set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

The results marked a remarkable improvement from last year’s inaugural games, when Tiangong Ultra won the 100 metres in 21.50 seconds. Tiangong also won the world’s first humanoid robot half-marathon, held in Beijing last year.

The 100 metres is among 51 events at the games, which include football, dancing and contests to complete industrial tasks.

China is promoting humanoid robots as a strategic emerging industry, with policymakers and companies betting that advances in AI and hardware will accelerate their use in manufacturing, logistics and consumer applications.

Investor enthusiasm for the sector was underscored recently when shares in Unitree, China’s best-known humanoid robot maker, jumped more than five fold in its Shanghai trading debut, giving the company a market value of about $50 billion.

This year’s games have drawn 2,056 robots from 666 teams across 16 countries and six continents, up from 280 teams at the inaugural event.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Laura Bicker in Beijing.
