Putin annexes Ukraine regions in Europe’s biggest land grab since WW2 – BBC News
President Putin has announced the annexation of four regions of Ukraine that are controlled by Russian forces.
It’s the biggest seizure of territory in Europe since the Second World War.
The Russian leader’s declaration follows staged referendums in Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Donetsk, which were denounced as sham by the international community.
President Putin warned the West he would protect the territory with all means at his disposal.
In response Ukraine said its application to join the NATO western alliance should be accelerated.
The United States announced new sanctions against Russia.

One person has been killed and 11 injured in a second strike on the international airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh, officials have said.
A Saudi military spokesman said a projectile had hit King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, causing a fire in a passenger hall. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said in a statement that one person, a Pakistani resident, had been killed in the attack.
It comes a day after a strike on the same airport killed 13 people and injured 308 others.
The Houthis in Yemen said they were behind them and warned airlines and passengers against using Saudi Arabian airports and airspace.

One in every six cigarettes smoked in the UK is counterfeit.
In this episode of BBC News Behind the Investigation, Melanie Stewart-Smith talks to File on 4 Investigates reporter Jane Deith about how the team uncovered the global criminal networks flooding Britain with fake cigarettes, and the human cost behind every cheap pack.
Jane explains how the team traced the supply chain from secret factories in Belgium to corner shops, minimarts and cash and carries across the UK.
We also look at why gangs are moving from drugs to fake cigarettes. A former senior Europol official says they now make as much money as they do from drugs, with far lower prison sentences if they’re caught. The profits are being used to fund weapons, people smuggling and even terrorism.

Well, after WW II the Indian subcontinent was still under British rule. A territory 40 times of what Russia controls of the Ukraine today.
Outrage displayed by the British Broadcasting Corporation over land grabs is therefore not really convincing.

Annexation? Russia is always dealing with border disputes as in Ukraine now which began with Washington and London weapons supply since 2014 and terrorist strikes killing 14000 Ukranians even before Russia entered to demilitarize our 8 year war incitement efforts. In 1925, Turkmenistan became a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, so Afghanistan was effectively on the USSR border. Compare that to the annex attempts by our USA every year – we are bombing Lybia, Iraq, Syria, Serbia, North Korea (1953), Vietnam. Ukraine, Japan (even before we dropped nuclear bombs, Japan were at the tail end of a peace negotiation organized by Russia, so our bombing there was completely useless and just murderous) and many other places. These are all far from our borders. The location of war alone is a good proxy for who the aggressor is.
