We call it jello because that was the brand name that was very popular, then it just caught on. What you call jelly and what we call jello are both flavored gelatin.

Is it possible to have a 3 course meal where every dish is a pudding?

I feel like it's kinda unfair to base decisions off history considering majority of American dishes were based off handed down European recipes cuz that's where the populations ancestors came from.

I think you'll find crisps are, in fact, British. The correct term for what we call chips, though, should be potato fries as translated any probable country of origin, the name translates to English as potato fries.
Also, crisps are crispy, it says it all in the name, whereas fries/chips have no mention of texture. We'll call that round 1-1

I just realized that British biscuits weren't sweet originally. That means we Americans probably started with the original unsweetened biscuits that England had and changed them over time, keeping them unsweetened while Britain changed to making them sweet.

    Sir that's a cookie 🍪

British cookies, or biscuits as they call them, are so sad and dry and cheap looking. Come to the US and have a Tollhouse cookie, peanut butter cookie, molasses spice cooke, something with some flavor. Potato chips were invented here, but the British name for them makes more sense; crisps because they are crisp.

I think some british people just call all desert no matter what pudding too and it's very confusing. Lol

  14. @badboycooking

    December 31, 2023 at 11:34 am

I would argue that the British jelly is just gelatin because I’ve heard many people refer to jello as just gelatin you use gelatin to make gelatin

Almost forgot, I did like the potato wedges at kfc. Never thought of them as a fry though. They reminded of broasted potatoes which are hard to find now.

Good calls Max. I think you settled once and for all the standards for the English-speakers across the globe about these different foods. I will call hard cookies that you could dip biscuits from now on. However a soft oatmeal raisin cookie or chocolate chip cookie is not a biscuit. lol Yay for pudding! Jelly gelatin. Jell-o should be ashamed for deceiving us these many years! 🙂

American biscuits started in the US south, long before fast food

  19. @yippee8570

    December 31, 2023 at 11:34 am

The odd thing is that we do have jellies, jams and preserves in the UK and they mean exactly the same thing as they do in the US. I guess jam is just generally more popular and we also have jelly the dessert as a completely different thing. Also, very disappointed that Max didn't step in with 'clack clack' when they mentioned ships' biscuits. Really missed a trick there.

    December 31, 2023 at 11:34 am

8:36 Um…. That is not a potato wedge, Sir. That is a steak fry and they are delicious (dipped in mayo, otherwise they are way to much potato). KFC did have potato wedges… but they were jo-jos not steak fries.

terrible job presenting US biscuits. where was the sausage gravy? where was a bacon egg and cheese? butter and honey? strawberry freezer jam?

    December 31, 2023 at 11:34 am

If your muffins are as sweet as cake, you're making them wrong. I hate the overly sweet "muffins" widely available now. When i make muffins, i use AT MOST half the sugar.

"Jell-O salad" is called ambrosia. It's whipped cream, Jell-O, marshmallows, and then whatever other sweets, nuts, or fruits grandma was trying to get rid of. It's basically a dessert casserole.

  28. @farmerchick3040

    December 31, 2023 at 11:34 am

I would never have thought english muffins were invented in America. Cupcakes have frosting.

American biscuits were previously ship hardtack, they look superficially similar as well. Fresh flour, lard, and butter had us creating a more tender and pleasing nibble, which we vehemently serve hot.

Though this video is entertaining I implore to take take out the wet biscuit part because it was inappropriate and not needed.
