Australian craft brewery uses algae to fight climate change – BBC News
Fermenting beer produces carbon dioxide (CO2), which is usually released into the atmosphere and can damage it.
To combat this, a craft brewery in Sydney has partnered with climate change scientists and developed a way to use microalgae to capture that CO2, and turn it into oxygen.
The brewers estimate their algae releases as much oxygen as two hectares of bushland.

AI can always be controlled, the president of encrypted messaging app Signal has told the BBC.
Meredith Whittaker said fears that AI could become conscious and take over were “not anchored in science and evidence”, warning instead about the dangers of using the technology in military decision-making.
The former Google employee said AI could “supercharge mistakes” and reflected on her role in opposing the company’s involvement in a US military drone surveillance project.
Speaking to the BBC Global Women, Whittaker also questioned who gets to shape the future of AI, criticised the concentration of power in Silicon Valley and explained why Signal would leave a country rather than compromise its users’ privacy.

Developer Moonshot is conducting an internal review after researchers were able to persuade two of its popular Kimi models to tell them how to make biological weapons and carry out assassinations.
Mindgard, which tests the security of AI systems, told the BBC it discovered in July that Kimi K2.6 and K3 Swarm could evade safety limits put in place by developers.
It arose during a process called “jailbreaking”, where researchers use a series of complex instructions to see if AI tools ignore guardrails – which Mindgard said should have stopped Kimi from discussing concerning topics.
Moonshot told the BBC it welcomed third-party input “as a key pillar for building better and safer AI”.

can enriched algae be pumped back into oil wells. Given the source of the co2., there may be inedible phytoplankton being produced. Can we pump those algae into oil wells so that with the heat they can be made into oil to replace what was removed from the earth

we need to be quiet about what a little algae can do when compared to an amount of grown forest trees because there are those out there who is saying that they will build you the largest bio reactor in the world just let me cut down more trees let me refine more oil. We have to fix what we have done to our environment, learn and reach a certain balance before we can whisper of the importance of Algae. Yes we know it is important and we do need it but let's keep this away from certain people who don't have our long term goals in mind

All of the co2 locked up in the growth of algae is rereleased into the atmosphere through decomposition. the secondary uses are great but does nothing to help lock up your co2 from brewing, and it's a tiny amount. This is just good marketing for their beer folks.

Could that cause a loop between growing the Algae to capture CO2, using pump, pump uses electricity, and electricity costs a lot of CO2, maybe not if it is came from a renewable electrical source

The sad truth is that no matter how badly us regular people want to change the world for the better, i.e discrimination, environment or societal etc. These mega-corporations would never allow anything to get in the way of "making profit"
It's really sad that these people with the power to do something aren't doing anything to change the environment for the better.
I wish that all these companies, governments and countries just stopped trying to out do each other and just tried to work together more closely and actually spend their time and resources towards more important, planet altering matters but, we know that's never happening
