Again, I’m watching this tree years after the fact and I’m not a foodie. I like the look of, aroma of and taste of delicious foods but am a fairly basic boil it fry it roast it and reheat it in the microwave cook – and with that in mind I have to ask – why is everyone eating and drinking gold or glitter? It seems very unhealthy and without knowing anything else about it you know that the reason is pretentiousness so the product itself cannot help but be pretentious.

I don’t know if it’s only me who can picture this but can anybody else imagine if James was still his usual self with his only difference to his current self being his usual distaste towards pretentious ingredients being the polar opposite and sharing the same delight and passion for pretentious ingredients that would be reminiscent of Barry 😂

If a product have "organic" on it, it's garbage.
If a product have "karma" on it (or other scam words), it's garbage.
Both and it's pure flaming garbage.

I've seen a show about a restaurant that does tasting plates with anywhere from 5-10 individual items, designed to be eaten in a specific order. The chef creates each bite to compliment the next until the final one culminates in culinary ecstasy. Sounds like a fun evening 😉

I think for lots of people the olive oil has an acquired taste too. For me first time the extra virgin olive oil tasted like ink from a pen, bitter and not pleasant with a strong aftertaste which also was not pleasant. I am still not a fun of extra virgin olive oil but it is more pleasant than the first time.

I use Argan oil for my skin and hair. I can't say I've ever heard of it as an edible substance. 28 pounds is cheap! You should see what they're charging for it as a cosmetic application!!!

How in the HELL do you not consider an oil that you're paying for branding/story not pretentious!? Plus, I'd like to know what percent of the price ACTUALLY is applied to those 600 indigenous women protecting an UNESCO plant. No wonder he's not around anymore, I thought he was one of my favs until watching this video back again.

Freeze drying doesn't destroy vitamins, flavor, color, anything. And it also doesn't use preservatives or sugar. Their marketing department is spewing some real BS.

Whatever else that argan oil might be, the bottle looks incredibly pretentious. Those little blurbs of text swooning over where it comes from, while using the Enter key way too often and randomly interspersing it with symbols… and spelling "rooted in Arabic soil" as "routed". I'll be sure to buy that, if I want oil from an army that was defeated and broke ranks fleeing, somewhere underground in Arabic regions, but otherwise, I like my products spell-checked.

I have to say, I find these old lockdown videos very comforting. I wish that I knew what that was like. I'm not a normal. I've had to work during all this mess that was 2020, 2021 and 2022. My second job? Working at a giant grocer in their meat and produce department. Since 2020. Yeah, it's not been fun.

natural truffle flavor indeed. these guys need to be a bit more knowledge of gastronomic chemistry if they're going to judge the labels of pretentious food. here's the thing … 999 out of 1000 companies (at least) selling truffle-flavored anything buy unbelievably concentrated artificial essence from a very small number of companies. a small ampoule will make a gallon of "truffle oil", and you really have to smell it to believe it. even through a layer of glass it's overwhelming. importantly, it comes in two versions of the exact same chemical, for legal reasons. one is made from ordinary lab chemicals, while the modestly more expensive one is produced circuitously from actual food chemicals. remember, they are the exact same chemical. but products with the second one can legally put "natural flavor" on the ingredient list. now, i don't have any sort of problem with fake truffle oil. i own the concentrate, behind multiple levels of protection. but food commentators need to be aware that anything with a fancy label selling for more than a fiver for a bottle of oil is cynically selling a cheap monodimensional product to gullible wankers. and this includes those little jars with a couple of sad "black truffles" in "infused" oil which, surprisingly, aren't the famous Black Truffle species, but are rather a flavorless chinese truffle that happens to be black. and fwiw the truffle chemical supply company sells those too. in big bags. although i admit the glittery gold mustard does look a bit awesome and i don't necessarily have a problem with it
fun fact: gianduia is pronounced jandwia, not jindooyah

I dehydrate cherry tomato's until they are crisp…, when I want the "sun dried tomato's" you buy from the deli section at a ridiculous price…, all I do is pour boiling water over them for 20 to 30 seconds (no more), drain, add extra virgin olive oil and herbs (italian herbs is good)…., deeeelish. I have kept the dried tomato's for over 3 years in a jar in the cupboard and they are perfect for giving a salad a super boost.

I do not see the point in adding gold to food. You cannot taste it, and even though the amount of gold used is small, it all adds up in time. I'm not an expert in how sewerage farms work, but I'm imagining that once the gold is eaten and comes out in the end, it is lost forever. Waste of an expensive resource.

December 30, 2023 at 11:18 pm
I'm 'Severely' allergic to alcohol. I always watch people on cooking shows going on about how much they love different drinks and I can only guess at how it tastes. You say this is a lot like Prosecco so it makes me want to give it a try. Not pretentious to me. Fyi, it does NOT cook out and can not be removed and one precent is enough to send me to hospital.
