It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.

When you keep people indoors they don't encounter enough bacteria and don't get imunity so when lockdown is over people go out get bacteria and will die more often.

There are far too many people and we have literally fked this planet. We should find a better virus. CCP let this virus go because they knew bleeding heart democracies would be forced to do something about it.
@biggdickman
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
Let me save 14 mins of your time and just say that answering this question doesn’t need a scientist. Loss of economy will damage everyone’s lives a lot more than this virus ever will. It’s a pandemic, people will die, it’s expected. You can’t live with fear. This isn’t ebola, you can recover from it and pretty easily.

It's time to reopen the economy, require masks where possible. We lef the people with a greater than 10% chance of dying stays home. Trump was right
@kutbilukhadia2715
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
If you have prolonged lockdown you lose not only your income but all your savings. You lose your immunity power simply sitting at home. So after a limit of say 4 months ,lockdown is really not helpful.
@kutbilukhadia2715
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
This explanation is very hypothetical.
@AlliYAFF
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
That’s just a monetary figure, and one that I don’t think takes nearly everything into account. It’s also important to note that you are not taking into account how the economic loss might compound over time.
The thing you are clearly missing is all of the values not fulfilled due to the government imposed restrictions. Being alive is not the same thing as living life. That is not a frivolous distinction. Human values outside of “not dying” have long been considered important. We acknowledge this when we donate money to Make-A-Wish so a dying child can enjoy the time that they do have, even if such a thing doesn’t grant that child a longer life. How do we begin to calculate the cost of that?

@jscott78
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
NZ did it right. The government maintains that ‘the best economic response is a health response’. We eliminated the virus through short term pain (≈ 7 week full lockdown), for long term gain. We now have a fully open domestic economy that’s actually doing pretty well considering the global situation…
@onionpotato3396
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
Actual deaths in the UK are about 93% below the forecast that plunged the UK into a devastating lockdown. The hysterics who are driving the lockdown and tanking the economy have blood on their hands. The corona virus death rate is not 1%. It is about 0.14%, and the average age of deaths is 84.

@ashimsingha1342
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
If that one person who died that could of been prevented due to lockdown was part of your family then I hope that money saved was worth while. There’s time where saving lives matters above all, and doing the right thing is the only thing todo.
@Rory20uk
December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am
A good effort to quantify many different variables.
The biggest shame is the massive guess of potential deaths – the numbers created by previous pandemics were shown to be massively overrated.
Would those dying definitely be younger in the untreated group? If they were given priority to equipment then this would help mitigate this.
But overall you have to make assumptions somewhere.
